Q&A With Nebraska Commit Brad Janes

By: Diego Solares
Area Scout, Illinois & Missouri

RHP Brad Janes (De Soto) is one of the top prospects in the Kansas' 2025 class, slotted at No. 10 overall on our board currently. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound right-hander was a winner across a handful of events last year, including the PBR Future Games.

There, Janes toed the rubber against a talented Wisconsin squad and caught the attention of coaches in attendance. His fastball played at 87-88 mph and he showed aptitude to land a bendy, slurvy-type breaking ball for strikes in the low-70s.

We recently spoke to the Nebraska commit on why he chose the Huskers, his recruiting process, his favorite baseball memory, and we even got a brief glimpse into De Soto's upcoming season. You'll find all of that below.

OUR Q&A

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?

Janes: I thought the recruiting process would be very stressful and it was. I was looking for a college that could make me the best I could be. I wanted to be at a program that I knew I could do great things for.

PBR: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?

Janes: Yes, I wanted to stay close to home and Nebraska is pretty close to home.

PBR: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Where did the school you committed to first see you play?

Janes: My recruitment started up during the summer. The first time Nebraska saw me was at the Future Games.

PBR: What do you like most about the program you chose, and what were the key factors in making your decision?

Janes: I really like their pitching philosophy. All the coaches I really liked and I thought that they could make me the best pitcher and person I can be.

PBR: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?

Janes: Iowa and Missouri State.

PBR: Who is the best player you have faced in your state? What about them makes for a tough opponent?

Janes: The best player I have faced is one of my teammates on my club and school team, UTL Cade Martinez (De Soto, 2025). He is really good when he needs to get a job done and a ball in play.

PBR: At what point in your career did you realize you were a college-caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?

Janes: I would say this summer I really thought I could produce on the college level.

PBR: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?

Janes: Just keep working and find something to work for. When you do get to committing don’t get complacent.

PBR: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

Janes: My most memorable moment of my baseball career is committing to the University of Nebraska and pitching at the Future Games.

PBR: Preview your high school team's season for us. How do you feel your team will be?

Janes: Last year we got second in state and we are going to be very solid this year. We are looking to win state this year and get our names on the map.
