The Kansas high school baseball season kicks off on March 19, opening day for regular season action under KSHSAA regulations. Leading up to opening day, we’ll be publishing our team previews ahead of the 2024 spring season, touching on programs spanning all state classifications, counting down through the official Prep Baseball Kansas Preseason Power 25 Rankings.

Perennially, we’ve submitted a preseason questionnaire to high school head coaches across the entire state. Their responses have been flooding in and we’re using the detailed insight they’ve provided in our team-by-team preseason analysis.

Our 2024 preseason coverage continues today.

2024 SEASON OUTLOOK

No. of Returning Starters:

6

Top Returning Players:

Garrett Olson - OF/C, Sr. 5'10" 170, R/R - Garrett was in our top 3 hitters and is the type of player every coach needs. Shows up every day and does anything that is asked of him. He comes in with the most varsity experience on our team. He hit .270 with 8 2Bs and 13 RBI last season

Brayden Tatum - SS, Sr. 5'11" 150, R/R - Brayden returns at SS this season for us after a very solid junior year that was unfortunately cut short by a broken hand. He is very driven to get back on the field for his senior season. Brayden hit .250 for us last year and was outstanding for us defensively.

Lucas Sorensen - IF/OF/P - 6'0" 170, R/R - Lucas was a big part of our pitching staff last season and will give us a veteran on th mound this season. He also played a lot of 3rd base but was willing to move anywhere he was needed. Lucas had 14 hits and 12 RBI last season.

Nolan Fevurly - P/IF, Jr. - 6'1" 205, R/R - Nolan returns for his junior season after being our top pitcher the last two years. He is looking to continue to build on his very good start to his high school career. I'm expecting a big season out of him both on the mound and at the plate. .250 with 12 RBI. 39 innings pitched with 49 Ks on the mound.

Brady Nelson - IF, Jr. - 5'9" 145, R/R - Brady moved up to the varsity last season after the injury to Brayden Tatum. He had a very solid last 7-8 games for us. He played very well at 2B and ended the season hitting .316. We are looking forward to him building on his finish from last season.

Manny Myers - OF/P, So. - 5"10" 145, L/S - Like Brady, Manny moved up to the varsity after starting the season on our JV. He came up and instantly solidified our outfield playing a fantastic CF. We are super excited to have him there the next three years as he gets faster and stronger. He was very solid at the plate hitting .262 with a .375 OBP while bouncing around the line up and finishing as our lead off hitter. We are expecting a big year from him.

Parker Clubb - C/P/IF, So. - 6'1" 185, L/R - Parker started for us as a freshman and was an outstanding catcher. He also became our closer as the year went on. We are excited to see Parker build on his freshman year both behind and at the plate. He has some huge potential and we are hopeful for a breakout sophomore season.

Top Newcomers:

Reed Hackleman - C/IF/OF, So. 5'10" 170, L/R - Reed played a few games for us as a freshman but we are expecting big things from him in the future. He can play all over the field and will also provide us quality depth at catcher. I'm very excited to see him at the plate this season.

Grey Sanders - P/IF/OF, So. 6'0" 190, R/R - Grey pitched two games for us at the varsity last year and combining that with what he did at the JV level throughout the season we are super excited about how good he could be. We also feel like he can help us in the OF or IF as the season goes

Coach’s Insight:

“I would say our team strengths will hopefully be pitching and a hard working group. We have quite a few potential good arms. We also have a group that puts in a lot of work. They seem to really enjoy baseball and they put in a lot of time outside of the season. That is something you really can't teach and I hope it helps us throughout the season. I would say our biggest concerns would be youth and health. Everyone's season is dependent on players staying healthy. We feel like we have some pretty good talent returning but we also have a lot of young kids that we are counting on which can always be an unknown.” – Steve Nelson, head coach
