Uncommitted Spotlight: Dakota Duran

Today, we continue our rollout of uncommitted spotlights highlighting the 2021 class.

Dakota Duran showcased his talents at 2020 Scout Day: Between the Lines Feb. 15. Athletic behind the plate, showed advanced blocking and quiet hands. 1.99-2.05 pop time to second and threw 75 mph down to second. Ranked #76 overall and #11 as a catcher in Kansas.

Positional Profile: C 
Body: 5-foot-9, 150-pounds. Proportional build.
Defense: 1.99-2.05 pop times. Shows quick feet, clearing to his arm side on throws down. Receives with quiet hands. Advanced blocking.
Arm: Right-handed. C - 75 mph. INF - 79 mph. Short arm action. Over the top release.
Hit: Right-handed. Back leg heavy stance with bend in the knees. Slow moderate knee-knock leg kick. Hands come through an efficient and clean path with some quickness.
Power: 85 mph exit velocity from the tee. Consistent line drives to the middle and pull side. 
Run: 4.63 runner home-to-first. Upright runner. Long strides

Duran shows a stocky build at 5-foot-9, 150 pounds, and is a right-handed hitting catcher and middle infielder in Kansas’ 2021 class. At the event, Duran ran a 7.63 second 60 and a 4.97 home-to-first. At the plate, posted an exit velocity of 89 mph, starts in an upright posture, quiet load, in line stride quick hands, repeats swing, produced hard gap-to-gap contact during batting practice. Behind the plate, fluid footwork, momentum towards target, clean arm action, over the top release, positional velo of 70 mph, mostly accurate throws, pop times between 2.22-2.36 seconds. On the infield, Duran shows some athletic actions, range to forehand and backhand sides, clean transfers, over the top release, positional velo of 75 mph, mostly accurate throws.

 

 

1/26/19 - Duran is a 5-foot-9 145-pound right-handed hitting catcher and second baseman in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 4.75 home to first and has an 83 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, smooth load with accelerated hands, simple and repeatable, quick bat speed, gap to gap line drives, level bat path.  Behind the plate, 2.03 to 2.13-second pop times, 73 mph positional velocity, over the top release, exchange and footwork on time together, clean catch and throw, mostly accurate throws to the bag.  On the infield, 73 mph positional velocity, short over the top arm slot, quick catch and throw, stays under control, fields ball in athletic position, soft hands.

 

 

1/15/18 - Duran is a 5-foot-8 130-pound right-handed catcher and second baseman in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 4.90 home to first and has a 76 mph exit velocity. At the plate, thin and stall stance, leg lift to in line stride, hands generate level path and quick bat speed, stays on ball after contact, gap to gap approach, some pop to the pull side. Behind the plate, pop times between 2.39 and 2.53, 67 mph positional velocity, feet are aggressive and create momentum to throw, clean exchanges, over the top release. On the infield, 70 mph positional velocity, over the top release, fluid footwork to the ball, clean exchanges, fields ball out front, mostly accurate throws.
