Uncommitted Spotlight: Colby McCurdy

INF Colby McCurdy (Ottawa, 2020) is an uncommitted prospect that has continuously made strides in his game. He's ranked No. 60 overall; No. 1 among 2B.

McCurdy recently participated in the Between The Lines scout day. At the event, he posted a 91-mph exit velo off a tee and threw 78-mph across the diamond.

2/15/20

Positional Profile: 2B The top ranked second baseman in the state
Body: 5-foot-9, 150-pounds. Athletic, developing frame
Defense: Smooth, advanced actions in the field with bouncy footwork. Takes efficient angels to the ball. Advanced hands. Works through the baseball well. 
Arm: Right-handed. INF - 78 mph. OF - 83 mph. Short, quick arm action. Can throw from all angles.
Hit: Right-handed. Wide, athletic setup at the plate with rhythm. Puts the foot down early with a late heel plant. Smooth hand load. Above average bat speed. Slightly uphill swing plane. Big, high finish.
Power: 91 mph exit velocity from the tee. Gap-to-gap power.
Run: 4.17 runner home-to-first. Advanced, aggressive runner

6/18/19 - McCurdy is a 5-foot-9 145-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class. He ran a 6.95 60, a 4.25 home to first and had an 83 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, open stance, early to touch, minimal load, loose and quick hands, level path through extension, gap to gap approach during hitting evals.  On the infield, athletic pre pitch set up, steps into ball at contact, quick feet to the ball, smooth transfer on time with footwork, loose high three quarters arm slot, mostly accurate throws.
2/23/19 - McCurdy is a 5-foot-9 145-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas' 2020 class.  He ran a 4.17 home to first and has an 82 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, early to touch, in line stride, level path with gap to gap approach, stays under control.  On the infield, high three quarters arm slot, smooth actions with clean transfer, soft hands, accurate throws, 82 mph positional velocity.

10/22/17 - McCurdy is a 5-foot-9 145-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.35 60 and 4.78 home to first.  He has a 79 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, smooth rhythm, minimal hand load, reverse toe tap, loose hands, aggressive bat speed, loose hands, gap to gap contact during batting practice.  On the infield, 67 mph, high three quarters release, loose arm action, quick catch and throw, fields ball in athletic position, athletic actions, mostly accurate throws.

7/5/17 - McCurdy is a 5-foot-9 145-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 6.97 60 and has an 83 mph exit velo. At the plate, simple and repeatable, athletic stance, short in line stride,  controlled leg lift, aggressive hands with quick bat speed, level through the zone to extension, solid hard contact, gap to gap.  On the infield, 76 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, aggressive and quick to the ball, quick exchange, momentum to throw, mostly accurate, some with carry, athletic actions.
