Today, we continue our rollout of uncommitted spotlights highlighting the 2021 class.

Carsen Malan attended 2020 Scout Day: Mac N Seitz Feb. 22nd. Receives from a very quiet and sturdy base with an aggressive glove. 1.95-2.15 pop time, whiling throwing 73 mph down to second. Ranked #94 overall and #12 as a catcher in Kansas.

Defense2.01-2.15 pop times. Receives from a very quiet and sturdy base with an aggressive glove. Quick feet behind the plate.
ArmRight-Handed. C - 72 mph.  Quick arm action coming through a high-¾ slot. Ball gets out quick.
HitRight-Handed. Stands straight up at the plate with a very narrow stance. Small stride forward. Little movement in the load. Flat path through extension.
Power78 mph exit velocity from the tee. Line drive hitter. Mostly barrels in BP.
Run: 4.41 runner home-to-first.

Malan is a 5-foot-7 135-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas' 2021 class.  He ran a 4.50 home to first and has a 76 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balances stance, short in line stride, stays balanced, smooth acceleration with loose hands, showed feel for the barrel, gap to gap approach, quick bat speed.  Behind the plate, pop times between 2.00 and 2.09-seconds, 73 mph positional velocity, quick transfer and throw, accurate throws with carry, footwork on time with transfer, athletic actions.

 

 

10/20/18 - Malan has a small frame, but athletic build at 5-foot-7, 135-pounds and is a right-handed hitting catching prospect in Kansas’ 2021 class. He ran a 7.59 second 60 yard dash, 4.52 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 79 mph. During batting practice, Malan starts in a slightly open and athletic stance, simple leg lift into his load, loose hands with rhythm, quick bat, level bat path, feel for the barrel, showed some pop to the middle of the field. Defensively behind the plate, Malan showed off his athleticism, quick actions, good side-to-side movements, quiet hands, clean transfers, high three-quarter arm slot, ball showed carry through the target, pop times between 1.95 and 2.15 seconds (quickest recorded at the event), positional velocity of 71 mph, very accurate throws.

 

 

 2/24/18 - Malan is a 5-foot-7 135-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 4.88 home to first and has a 78 mph exit velocity. At the plate, simple and repeatable, now wasted movement, balanced with win line stride, level path though extension, quick bat speed, gap to gap line drive with hands working inside the ball. Behind the plate, pop times between 2.16 and 2.20-seconds, 71 mph positional velocity, high three quarters release, quick transfer with short and quick feet, has momentum to throw, mostly accurate throws, flashing carry.
