The Barn Scout Day: Catchers Analysis

Prep Baseball Report Kansas held the Barn Scout Day on January 13 at The Barn Baseball Facility in Manhattan, Kansas.  Nearly thirty players participated in the 2022 to 2018 classes from around the area.

Player profiles have been updated with running times and velocities along with a video of their performance. 

Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard.

Below is a look at the catchers from the event.  Players are listed in alphabetical order. 


Catchers

Kolden Howerton C / 3B / Seaman, KS / 2021

Howerton is a 5-foot-10 165-pound left-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2021 class. He ran a 4.10 home to first and had an 87 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts slightly closed in stance and remains slightly close in stride, pre pitch rhythm in body and hands, slight hand load, loose hands with level path, high finish, mostly middle of the field contact.  Behind the plate, short exchange, quick jab step with right foot on time with exchange, over the top arm slot, 76 mph positional velocity from behind the plate.

Braden Dinkel SS / C / Manhattan, KS / 2022

Dinkel is a 5-foot-7 145-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2022 class. He ran a 4.19 home to first with an 80 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts in an open stance, thrythm in hands, slight rotation in hips and hands to load, short and in line stride, slight lift to bat path, consistent contact to middle and pull side of the field.  Behind the plate, starts in a wide base, clean exchange with fluid footwork, high three quarters release, 71 mph velo from the crouch

Tyler Machor C / 1B / Manhattan, KS / 2022

Machor is a tall and lean 6-foot-2 185-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2022 class. He ran a 4.34 home to first and had an 89 mph exit velocity. At the plate, tall and slightly open in set up, simple load with no wasted movement in hands, controlled and line stride, accelerated bat speed, level though the zone, flashed pull side power.  Behind the plate, over the top arm slot, sits low with square base, quick and clean exchange on time with footwork, fluid and controlled actions with loose arm action, 75 mph positional velocity from behind the plate.

Tylar Pere C / RHP / Junction City , KS / 2022

Pere is a 5-foot-9 160-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2022 class. He ran a 4.40 home to first with an 85 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, little pre swing movement, controlled load, in line stride, some lift to path, stays balanced, high finish, middle to pull side contact. Behind the plate, over the top arm slot, square base in feet in set up, fluid footwork, clean exchange, 70 mph positional velocity.

Eli Schnee C / 3B / Clay Center, KS / 2020

Schnee is a strong 5-foot-11 185-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 4.64 home to first and had a 91 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, minimal hand movement, short and controlled leg lift, level path through the zone, gap to gap line drives. Behind the plate, quit and controlled actions, short first step with right foot on time with exchange, quick release, high three quarters release, 71 mph positional velocity.
