MOKAN Summer Trials: Catcher's Analysis

Prep Baseball Report - Kansas held the MOKAN Summer Trails on June 19 at LaRoche Field in Fort Scott, Kansas.. Over 50 players in the 2023 t0 2019 classes from around Missouri and Kansas participated.
Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard. Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running times, velocities, and videos. Today will take a closer look at the catchers from the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order below.

Beau Baumgardner OF / C / Emporia , KS / 2020Baumgardner is a 6-foot-1 180-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas' 2020 class. He ran a 7.12 60 and a 4.62 home to first. He has a 76 mph exit velocity. At the plate, he has a balanced set up, holds hands high, minimal load, controlled swing with no wasted movement in body, level path, works inside ball, mostly middle of the field contact. Behind the plate, pop times between 2.03 and 2.19-seconds, 70 mph positional velocity, wide base in set up, high three quarters arm slot, quick transfer with clean exchange, mostly accurate throws to the bag at second. |

Riley Bush C / SS / Baxter Springs , KS / 2021Bush is a projectible 6-foot-2, 180-pound right-handed hitting catcher and middle infielder from Baxter Springs, KS. He ran a 5.00 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 83 mph. At the plate, Bush showed a quiet load, quick hands and level bat path while making solid contact. Behind the plate defensively, Bush has an athletic set up, quick transfer, gains momentum towards 2B with pop times between 2.03 and 2.15 seconds (quickest at the event), positional velo of 75 mph and mostly accurate throws. While on the infield, he showed a clean arm path, good actions, positional velo of 71 mph and mostly accurate throws. |

Owen Bailey C / Maize South , KS / 2022Bailey is a 5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2022 class. He ran a 5.19 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 74 mph. During batting practice, Bailey shows an open and upright stance, minimal load and a compact swing that gets through the baseball. Behind the plate defensively, he has an athletic set-up, good footwork, quick transfer over the top release and clean arm action. Bailey’s pop times were between 2.28 and 2.48 seconds, positional velocity of 66 mph with mostly accurate throws. |

Benjamin Eddings C / Olathe South , KS / 2022Eddings is a 5-foot-10, 175-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2022 class. He ran a 5.40 second home-to-first and had an exit velo of 74 mph. During batting practice, Eddings showed an athletic stance, a slight leg lift in his load, balanced swing and contact mostly to his pull side. Defensively, Eddings showed clean transfers, directional footwork, pop times between 2.28 and 2.43 seconds, positional velo of 63 mph with mostly accurate throws. |

Dakota Harding C / 2B / Maize South , KS / 2020Harding is a 5-foot-9, 155-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2020 class from Maize South HS. Harding showed a 4.92 home-to-first and an exit velo of 79 mph. During batting practice, Harding has a balance stance, minimal load and showed contact to all fields of play. During catching evaluations, Harding had clean transfers, momentum towards second base, pop times been 2.20 and 2.44 seconds, accurate throws and a positional velo of 67 mph. |

Aidan Shaffer C / 1B / Mill Valley, KS / 2022Shaffer is a 6-foot, 235-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2022 class. Shaffer ran a 5.00 home-to-first and showed an exit velo of 78 mph. During hitting evaluations, Shaffer showed an upright and balanced stance, quick hands and solid contact. Defensively, Shaffer has a balanced stance, quick and clean transfers, pop times between 2.18 and 2.33 seconds, positional velo of 65 mph with mostly accurate throws
