On January 18, Prep Baseball Report Kansas/Missouri hosted the MO-KAN Underclass Invitational at Mac N Seitz Baseball Academy. Nearly 70 players in the 2018 and 2019 attended.
In the past few days we have broken down each position. Today we will take a look at the pitcher's performances from the event. Player profiles have been updated with video and stats from the event. Click on each player to see their profile.

KANSAS
Nick Allen, RHP, Blue Valley Southwest (KS), 2018
Allen is a 6-foot 195-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Allen has a high three-quarters release as a pitcher with a fastball at 74-78 mph, curveball has 11-to-5 shape, and change up at 67-68 mph. Simple and controlled delivery, body stays under control, throwing with regular effort.
Billy Bechard, RHP, Concordia (KS), 2018
Bechard is a 5-foot-11 165-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas 2018 class. Bechard was 78-80 with is fastball, one of the best fastball velos of the event, slight arm side run, loose arm action, repeatable delivery, high three quarters arm slot, smooth rhythm and tempo. Curveball was 65-66 with late 11-to-5 shape, signs of being a good pitch as he develops. Change up at 70-72 mph, late downward movement, throws for a strike, fastball arm speed.
Graeson Benefiel, RHP, Mulvane (KS), 2018
Benefiel is a 6-foot 170-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas 2018 class. Benefiel sat 76-78 mph, touching 80 mph three times, one of the top RHP fastball velos of the day. Throws with regular effort, high three quarters release, lands slightly closed in landing foot, controlled body, conventional delivery, repeatable. Breaking ball at 58-62 mph, 11-to-5 action, controllable, change up at 57-59, mph.
Davis Bloom, LHP, Blue Valley Southwest (KS), 2018
Bloom is a 6-foot 165-pound left-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Bloom is a strike thrower with three pitches. His fastball was 74-76 mph, change up at 68-70 mph fastball arm speed, slight arm side sink, curveball has 12-to-6 shape with late action. Controlled delivery, repeats release point, arm works, throws with regular effort, accelerated tempo during delivery.
Nicholas Chomyak, RHP, Shawnee Mission Northwest (KS), 2018
Chomyak is a 5-foot-9 155-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Chomyak worked his fastball at 77-79 mph, curveball showed to be a good pitch, 11-to-5 action, late movement, throws for a strike, change-up has slight arm side run at 74-75, near fastball arm speed, Throws strikes with three pitches, repeats delivery, high three quarters release, stays inline, throws with regular effort.
Scott Duensing, LHP, Blue Valley Northwest (KS), 2018
Duensing is a 5-foot-9 130-pound left-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Has increased velo on the mound since last event, fastball at 73-75, high three quarters release, loose arm action, arm works, showed feel for breaking ball at 60-63 mph, sharp 2-to-8 shape, change up, 64-67 mph with sink, fastball arm speed. Lean and loose with high projection. Repeats release point and showed command of three pitches. Duesing will continue to develop as he matures.
Hunter Flanigan, RHP, Andover Central (KS), 2018
Flanigan is a 5-foot-10 150-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. On the mound, Flanigan has some deception in movement as he gets down the mound, high front elbow and over the top release, hides the ball well, fastball at 72-73 mph, curveball has 11-to-5 movement at 67-68 mph, change up at 65-66 mph, slight arm side run, near fastball arm speed. Simple delivery with in-line stride.
Connor Hughes, RHP, Olathe North (KS), 2018
Hughes is a 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Fastball worked at 72-75 mph, down in the zone, stays on top of ball, curveball was 59-61 mph, 11-to-5 shape, change up has slight sink at 63-65 mph, fastball arm speed. Body stays under control throughout delivery, clean arm action, level shoulders, finish towards first base side.
Cody Lucas, RHP, Spring Hill (KS), 2018
Lucas is a 5-foot-11 180-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Fastball clocked at 73-75 mph, over the top release, creates direction towards the plate, simple delivery, athletic finish, breaking ball is 12-to-6 curveball at 66-69 mph, breaking ball has some depth, change up at 65-68 mph, near fastball arm speed.
Bryce Mitchell, LHP, Blue Valley Northwest (KS), 2018
Mitchell is a 6-foot-1 180-pound left-handed pitcher in Kansas 2018 class. Mitchell throws with regular effort, controlled delivery, long arm circle, over the top release, athletic finish, high percentage to strikes, fastball clocked at 74-78 mph, one of the top LHP fastball velos of the event, slight run, downhill plane, curveball has 1-to-7 shape, 66-69 mph, change-up 68-71 mph.
Joshua Mitchell, RHP, Shawnee Mission Northwest (KS), 2018
Mitchell is a 6-foot 160-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas 2018 class. Topped at 81 mph with fastball, worked 77-80 mph, one of the top RHP fastball velos of the event, fastball has late life with arm side run, down in zone with down angle tilt, curveball has sharp 11-to-5 shape, 68-71 mph, Repeatable release point with clean arm action, change up at 70-71 mph, some arm side run, near fastball arm speed, arm works, stays on top of ball, works down in zone, repeats delivery with accelerated tempo.
Tate Raboin, RHP, St. Thomas Aquinas (KS), 2019
Roboin is a 6-foot-2 155-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2019 class. Tate is long limbed and lean, repeatable mechanics, tuck at balance point, high three quarters release, aggressive down the mound, throws with some effort, fastball at 69-71 mph, 11-to-5 shaped curveball at 60-63, change up at 60-62, some with late sink.
David Robinson, RHP, Blue Valley Northwest (KS), 2018
David Robinson is a 5-foot-10 170-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Robinson posted a max fastball velo of 78 mph, working 75-78 mph, loose arm action, over the top release, hands raise with leg lift, aggressive down the mound, shoulders stay level, athletic finish, curveball has 11-to-5 shape, at 65-67 mph, down in zone, change-up at 62-67 mph, worked the knees with all pitches.
Ian Russell, RHP, Rock Creek (KS), 2019
Ian Russell is a 6-foot-3 170-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2019 class. Russell has long limbs with loose arm action, some deception in delivery with tempo, over the top release, throws downhill, fastball at 73-76 mph, curveball has 12-to-6 movement, change up at 69-70 mph.
Drake Seetin, RHP, Olathe Northwest (KS), 2018
Seetin is a 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Seetin is a strike thrower with three pitches, smooth tempo, over the top release, in line stride, loose arm action, fastball at 72-73 mph, breaking ball at 59-62 mph, 12-to-6 shape, has depth, change up at 68-69 mph, slight arm side release.
Payton Smith, RHP, Washburn Rural (KS), 2019
Smith is a 6-foot 195-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2019 class. Had one of the top RHP fastball velos on the day at 80 mph, worked fastball at 76-80, over the top release, aggressive down the mound, throws with some effort, classic hands over the head during wind up, in line stride, athletic finish, loose arm action, breaking ball at 57-60, 12-to-6 action, change-up at 64-71 mph, some late sink, down in zone.
Jake Swickard, RHP, Blue Valley Southwest (KS), 2018
Swickard is a 6-foot-2 180-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Swickard has a three quarters arm slot, long arm circle, slinging type motion, 74-79 mph fastball, running action, throws for strike, slider at 62-65 mph, change up at 70-71 mph, body stays controlled in delivery, throws with regular effort.
Garett Vandeventer, LHP, Arkansas City (KS), 2019
Vandeventer is a 5-foot-11 140-pound left-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2019 class. Vandeventer is a strike thrower, loose and easy arm action, some deception in delivery with tempo, throw with easy effort, repeatable mechanics, conventional delivery, over the top release, fastball at 72-73 mph, curveball has 12-to-6 action, throws for a strike, has feel for change-up at 65-66 mph, some arm side sink.
Grant Wilson, RHP, Blue Valley Southwest (KS), 2018
Wilson is a 6-foot-3 15-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Wilson posted the top RHP velo of the day at 84 mph, wide shoulders, throw downhill, with some effort, slightly across body, fastball worked at 81-84 mph, over the top release, sharpe 11-to-5 breaking ball, mostly down in zone, some sink on change-up at 69-74 mph, fastball arm speed, still gaining command. Projectable arm action and build would suggest a velo increase as he matures.
Austin Zellers, RHP, Andover Central, (KS), 2018
Zellers is a 5-foot-11 189-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas 2018 class. Zellers has a high three-quarters arm slot, throws with regular effort, showed ability to repeat release point, high percentage of strikes, fastball at 74-76 mph, curveball has 11-to-5 action, 63-64 mph, controllable change up at 70-71, near fastball arm speed, smooth rhythm and tempo in delivery.
Nebraska
Cole Evans, RHP, Grand Island (NE), 2019
Evans is a 6-foot 170-pound right-handed pitcher in Nebraska’s 2019 class. On the mound, fastball at 75-78 mph, breaking ball has 11-to-5 shape at 60-66 mph, change-up at 71-72 mph. Over the top release, throws downhill, glove raises with leg lift, hands separate on time, body stays under control, stride is inline.
Missouri
Tyler Abney, RHP, Smith-Cotton (MO), 2018
Abney is a 6-foot 167-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Abney worked his fastball at 76-79 mph with an over the top arm slot, fastball has some late run, smooth rhythm, accelerating down the mound. He works with regular effort, land in-line with stride, finishes with a slight fall to the glove the side. Breaking ball has 12-to-6 shape movement at 65-68 mph. Change up at 74-75 mph, near fastball arm speed. Lean and projectable frame.
Gibson Brown, LHP, Liberty (MO), 2018
Brown is a 6-foot-1 155-pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Brown’s fastball has late life, sitting 77-80, touching 81 mph, top LHP fastball velo of the event, fastball works downhill. Curveball has 2-to-8 action, at 64-65 mph and change-up is down in the zone at 67-68, throws for a strike, late arm side release. Projectable and lean frame with loose arm action, suggests velo increase with development, over the top release, with repeatable delivery. Has feel for three pitches.
Brandon Carvan, RHP, Raymore-Peculiar (MO), 2018
Carvan is a 5-foot-10 140-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Carvan threw strikes with fastball and change-up. Fastball was mainly 73-75, working both sides of the plate, change-up has late sink at 68-69 mph, near fastball arm speed. Breaking ball has 11-to-5 movement. Throws with easy effort, loose arm action and controlled delivery. Lean build with clean arm action.
Russell Cook, RHP, Summit Christian (MO), 2018
Cook is a 5-foot-7 150-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. On the mound, 71-73 mph fastball, 11-to-5 shape on breaking ball at 58-61 mph, controllable change-up at 67-68 mph, slight arm side release. From wind-up starts with foot on rubber like he is in wind-up, side step to leg lift, tuck at balance point, three quarters release.
John Forrest, LHP, Rockhurst (MO), 2018
Forrest is a 5-foot-8 160-pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Forrest’s fastball sat 67-70, curveball has 2-to-8 action at 62-64, change up at 64-66 mph. He has a low three quarters arm slot, able to work both side of plate, throws with regular effort and smooth rhythm.
Daniel Hammond, RHP, Rockhurst (MO), 2019
Hammond is a 5-foot-10 162-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Hammond has an over-the-top release, throws with regular effort, shoulders stay level, lands in-line, athletic finish. Fastball at 77-80 mph, one of the top RHP, fastballs of the event, curveball at 67-70 mph, 12-to-6 action, late break, change up at 72-75 mph, some sink, near fastball arm speed. Showed command of three pitches.
Braeden Hinton, RHP, Nevada (MO), 2018
Hinton is a 6-foot-2 185-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Hinton has clean arm action, arm works, smooth tempo in delivery, high three quarters release, body stays under control during delivery, throws slightly across body, athletic finish. Fastball was 78-81, one of the top fastball velos of the event, downhill plane, curveball at 67-68 mph, 11-to-5 movement, worked the bottom of the zone with change up at 72-75, fastball arm speed. Hinton throws with regular effort and repeats delivery and release.
Nickolas House, RHP, Grain Valley (MO), 2018
House is a 5-foot-11 155-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. House worked his fastball at 69-72 mph, throws from a high three quarters arm slot, in-line stride, curveball was 63-65 mph, 12-to-6 movement, change up at 67-68 mph. House throws with regular effort, smooth rhythm and tempo, worked quick on the mound, showed feel for three pitches in the zone.
Nathan Muenz, RHP, Blue Springs (MO), 2018
Muenz is a 6-foot 2015-pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Muenz has a drop and drive type delivery, over the top release, creates direction towards the plate staying inline, hides ball well, locates down in zone, throws with easy effort, fastball clocked at 77-80 mph, one of the top LHP fastball velos of the event, curveball is 56-to-58 mph, 12-to-6 action, change up at 57-59 mph,
Zach Pitzl, RHP, Rockhurst (MO), 2018
Pitzl is a 5-foot-11 170-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Easy and simple delivery, over the top release, in line stride, athletic finish, fastball topped at 81 mph, sitting mostly 78-79 mph, of the top RHP fastball velos of the day, 11-to-5 breaking ball at 60-62, some with sharp movement, change-up at 70-71, slight arm side release, near fastball arm speed.
Jacob Poletis, RHP, Rockhurst (MO), 2019
Poletis is a 5-foot-11 153-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Fatball has late life at 72-75 mph, come from a high three quarters release, tuck at balance point, change up at 64-66 mph, down in zone, curveball has 11-to-5 shape at 61-63 mph, has depth, throws for strike, throws with regular effort and smooth rhythm, stays on top of ball at release.

Raybourn is a 5-foot-11 165-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Raybourn worked 81-82 mph with his fastball, one of the top velos of the day, showed life with late run, 11-to5 shaped curveball at 68-70, change up at 77-78 mph, slow tempo through wind-up, accelerated down the mound, over the top release, loose and quick arm action, high percentage of strikes with fastball and curveball.
Brendan Ryan, RHP, Rockhurst (MO), 2018
Ryan is a 5-foot-11 150-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Ryan has a repeatable delivery, body stay under control, quick and loose arm action, over the top release, athletic finish, fastball at 75-78 mph, bottom of zone, breaking ball has 11-to-5 shape, some with late movement, change-up at 68-72 mph, has some feel for the mound, high percentage to strikes.
Peyton Smith, RHP, Blue Springs (MO), 2018
