The Kansas high school baseball season has kicked off. Over the next several weeks,  we’ll be publishing our team spotlights during the 2021 spring season, touching on programs spanning all state classifications. Perennially, we’ve submitted a Preseason Questionnaire to high school head coaches across the entire state. Their responses have been flooding in and we’re using the detailed insight they’ve provided in our team-by-team analysis.

If you would like your team covered, please have your head coach email us at [email protected]

TOP PLAYERS

Chandler Miller OF / RHP / Basehor-Linwood, KS / 2021

The Senior and Barton CC commit will look to provide offense in the outfield as well as be the number one guy on the mound for the Bobcats this Spring.  His fastball has been up to 89 mph in the past and it comes out of the hand very clean with minimal effort.  His ability to provide major two-way contributions will be key for the Bobcats in 2021.

Carter Bergman C / 3B / Basehor-Linwood, KS / 2022

The Junior C and 3B will look to build on the Varsity experience he earned as a Freshman back in 2019.  Carter has a long and lean build and uses his long levered swing to provide consistent contact up the middle of the diamond.  He shows good defensive actions at third but most impressively has been consistently clocked in the mid 1.9's on pop times behind the plate.

Jackson Herbel 2B / SS / Basehor, KS / 2022

Another Junior that has had some previous starting experience at the Varsity level, Jackson will be tasked with manning the shortstop position this Spring and providing good defense for the Bobcats.  At the plate he uses his rotational swing to try and get some lift on the ball to the pull-side and has more room in the frame to add strength in the future.

OUTLOOK

The strength to this 2021 Bobcats team is their front-line talent and returning on of the better pitchers in the state in Chandler Miller.  Getting these guys to perform at a high level will be a major factor to the level of success they will have in the Spring.
The biggest question mark is getting all the other new arms up to speed at the Varsity level.  Finding a couple more guys to help fill the gaps on the mound will be critical for the Bobcats especially early on in the season.
