Class of 2019 Games: Infielder Analysis

Prep Baseball Report - Kansas/Missouri held the Class of 2019 Games at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas on June 26.  Nearly 40 players in the 2019 class from Missouri and Kansas attended.

Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard. Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running times, velocities, and videos.  Today will take a closer look at the catcher from the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order below.

Here is a break down of the infielders from the Kansas Underclass Games.

INFIELDERS

Matt Campbell 1B / Fort Scott, KS / 2019

Campbell has a large frame and athletic build at 6-foot-4, 185 pounds. He ran a 4.54 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 87 mph. During batting practice, Campbell has a narrow but balanced stance, short stride, quiet load, minimal head movement, quick hands, uses his long limbs as leverage during swing and during game action hit a double off the LCF wall. Defensively, Campbell has fluid footwork, clean transfers, short arm action, positional velo of 67 mph and mostly accurate throws.

Hunter Cashero RHP / SS / St. James Academy, KS / 2019

Cashero is a 6-foot, 175-pound right-handed pitcher and middle infielder in Kansas’ 2019 class from St. James HS. He ran a 7.18 60, 4.56 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 91 mph, one of the tops at the event. During batting practice Cashero, starts balanced, uses a toe tap to load, strides slightly open, showed solid contact and line drives to the middle of the field and pop to his pull side. Defensively, he had clean transfers, attacked the baseball, ¾ arm slot, accurate throws and a positional velo of 81 mph. On the mound, Cashero has a smooth delivery, accelerates down the mound, repeats, clean arm action, throws 3 quality pitches for strikes, fastball was strikes to both sides of the plate, 79-83 mph, some arm side run, curveball is 64-67, 11-to-5 shape, late bite, changeup is 69-71 with arm side run and sink.

Colten Cassida C / SS / Gardner Edgerton , KS / 2019

Cassida has an athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 185-pounds and is a right-handed hitting outfielder and middle infielder in Kansas’ 2019 class. He ran a 4.38 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 86 mph. During batting practice, Cassida starts in a balanced stance, knee pinch with lower half into his load, slightly closed off stride, showed line drive contact to center and left field. Defensively in the outfield, he works behind the ball, clean transfers, quick feet, high ¾ arm slot, positional velo of 81 mph, mostly accurate throws. On the infield, Cassida  shows quick feet, clean transfers, momentum towards first base, positional velo of 78 mph, mostly accurate throws.

Owen Chaffin RHP / 2B / Blue Valley Southwest HS, KS / 2019

Chaffin has long limbs and a slender, projectable build at 6-foot-1, 175-pounds. He ran a 7.34 60, 4.40 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 87 mph. During batting practice, Chaffin uses an crouched, balanced set up, leg kick, long stride, explosive lower half, ball jumps off barrel with line drives to the middle and pull side of the field. Defensively, Chaffin projects as a corner infielder with long arm action, fluid footwork, good range, strong arm with a positional velo of 81 mph, accurate throws. On the mound, Chaffin has a fluid delivery, high leg kick, works downhill, high ¾ arm slot, fastball is 82-84 mph with occasional run, locates to both sides of the plate, change up is 72-76 with run, curveball was thrown from strikes, 65-68 mph, 11-to-5 shape, gradual bite. Chaffin does mix in a slider, similar velo to curveball, drops arm slot, 10-to-4 shape, late bite.

Castor Dodd 1B / OF / Brookfield, MO / 2019

Dodd has an athletic, strong build at 6-foot-1, 205-pounds. He ran a 4.48 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 87 mph. During batting practice, Dodd shows a smooth load with a toe tap, quiet hands, in line stride, contact to all fields, good bat whip, stays balanced throughout his swing. Defensively at first base, Dodd has fluid footwork, long and clean arm action, positional velo of 83 mph, fairly accurate throws. On the mound, Dodd has a fluid delivery, works downhill, quick arm, high ¾ arm slot, fields his position, locates fastball to both sides of the plate with arm side run, high percentage of strikes, 80-86 mph, curveball has 11-to-5 shape, sharp bite at times, near fastball arm speed, 67-69 mph.

Ty Gorman SS / 2B / Fort Scott, KS / 2019

Gorman is a very athletic 5-foot-9, 155-pound right-handed hitting middle infielder from Fort Scott HS. He ran a 6.83 60, 4.33 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 78 mph. During batting practice, Gorman has an balanced stance, toe tap, strong lower half, longer stride that is slightly closed off, quick hands. During game action he had singles to LF and CF as well as a stolen base. Defensively, Gorman has athletic actions on the infield, plus range, fluid footwork, quick loose arm action, positional velo of 78 mph, accurate throws.

Jordon Helm SS / 2B / Maize, KS / 2019

Helm has an athletic build and projectable frame at 5-foot-10, 155 pounds from Maize HS. At the event he ran a 7.11 60, 4.28 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 79 mph. During hitting evaluations, Helm has a quiet load, in line stride, quick hands, level bat path, minimal head movement, contact to the middle of the field, ball jumps off barrel. During game action he recorded a stolen base. Defensively, Helm has good actions on the infield, smooth hands, ¾ arm slot, clean arm action, positional velo of 74 mph, accurate throws.

Palmer Hutchison 3B / SS / Hays, KS / 2019

Hutchison has a large frame and strong build at 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds. At the event he ran a 7.10 60, 4.19 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 87 mph. During batting practice, Hutchison has an aggressive swing with a minimal hand load, in line stride, creates leverage with a strong front side, quick hands, hard contact to LF. During game action he recorded a single. Defensively, Hutchison shows good actions on the infield, clean arm action, ¾ arm slot, good range, positional velo of 80 mph, very accurate throws.

Dakota Jackson RHP / OF / Gardner Edgerton , KS / 2019

Jackson is a 6-foot-3, 175-pound right-handed pitcher and infielder in Kansas’ 2019 class from Gardner Edgerton HS. He ran a 4.50 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 86 mph. During batting practice, Jackson starts with a slightly open stance, leg lift, uses his long limbs to leverage his body, showed some pop to left field and had a single during game action. During infield evaluations, he showed range to his glove side, clean transfers, long arm, high ¾ arm slot, positional velo of 72 mph and accurate throws. On the mound, Jackson’s large frame make him a projectable prospect, delivery is compact, works downhill, gains momentum down the mound, high ¾ arm slot, clean arm action, kept hitters off balance during game action, fastball has arm side run, high percentage of strikes, 73-76 mph, curveball has 11-to-5 shape, 59-61 mph, late bite at times, changeup is 67-68 mph, good feel, fastball arm speed, strikes at bottom of the zone.

Jordan Jackson RHP / 3B / Washburn Rural, KS / 2019

Jackson has a solid frame at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds. He ran 4.37 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 80 mph. During batting practice, Jackson starts with a more narrow and open stance, toe tap into his load, quick hands, open stride. Defensively, Jackson showed a good glove, clean transfers, range to his glove side and back hand, positional velo of 79 mph, mostly accurate throws. On the mound, Jackson works downhill, gets good drive from his backside, over the top arm slot, fastball is 80-84 mph, thrown for strikes, curveball is 67-71 mph, 12-to-6 shape, showed late bite at times, thrown for a high percentage of strikes, changeup is 63-66 mph.

Brett Kennett SS / OF / Olathe South , KS / 2019

Kennett has large frame and athletic build at 6-foot-4, 185-pounds. He ran a 7.15 60, 4.42 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 85 mph. During batting practice, Kennett starts in a wider but athletic stance, minimal load, quick hands, flat barrel path, hard contact to all fields. In the outfield, he works behind the baseball, long and clean arm action, ball has some carry, positional velo of 86 mph, accurate throws. On the infield, Kennett has good actions, quick arm, momentum towards first base, positional velo of 78 mph, accurate throws. On the mound, Kennett has a fluid and repeatable delivery, quick and loose arm action, works downhill, high ¾ arm slot, fastball is 79-82 mph, high percentage of strikes, cut action, changeup is 71-73 mph, occasional cut, curveball is 70-71, sharp bite at times, 11-to-5 shape, used primarily as an out pitch in game action.

Jacob Kindhart C / 3B / St. James Academy, KS / 2019

Kindhart has a strong build at 5-foot-10 and 185 pounds. He is a left-handed hitting cather and infielder from St. James HS. He ran a 4.32 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 88 mph. During batting practice, Kindhart starts with a balanced stance, quiet load, abbreviated leg lick, flat bat path, minimal head movement, works inside the baseball and looks to hit everything to RF, singled during game action. Defensively behind the plate, he has an athletic set up, quick feet and hands, over the top arm action, positional velocity of 72 mph, mostly accurate throws, pop times between 1.99 and 2.10 seconds. On the infield, Kindhart showed quick arm action, clean transfers, positional velo of 78 mph and mostly accurate throws.

Jared Munk 1B / 3B / St. James Academy, KS / 2019

Munk has a large frame, long levers and athletic build at 6-foot-2, 170 pounds. He is a right-handed hitting first basement in Kanas’ 2019 class from St. James HS. At the even he ran a 6.99 60, 4.47 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 92, which as the highest recorded at the event. During batting practice, Munk has a slightly crouched set up, minimal load, long stride, level bat path, sprayed hard ground balls and line drives to all fields. Defensively, Munk has quick feet, clean transfers, short arm action, quick release, over the top arm slot, positional velo of 70 mph, accurate throws.

Bryan Payton SS / 2B / Lee's Summit West, MO / 2019

Payton is a 5-foot-11, 165-pound middle infielder in Missouri’s 2019 class from Lee’s Summit West HS. He ran a 7.06 60, 4.19 home-to-first, one of the quickest times at the event, and posted and exit velocity of 85 mph. During batting practice, Payton has a balanced set up, leg lift, slightly open stride, loose hands, controls the barrel, minimal head movement. Defensively, Payton shows athleticism, fluid footwork, clean and quick transfers, quick arm action, range to both his glove side and backhand, positional velo of 80 mph, accurate throws.

Brogen Richardson SS / RHP / Salina Central , KS / 2019

Richardson is 6-foot-2, 205-pound athletic middle infielder from Salina Central HS. He ran a 4.41 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 89 mph, on of the top velocities at the event. During batting practice, Richardson has a balanced set up, leg kick, quick hands, minimal head movement, ball jumps off his barrel, showed some pop to LF. Defensively on the infield, Richardson showed smooth actions, range to his glove side, clean arm action, low ¾ release, positional velo of 79 mph, mostly accurate throws.

Peyton Roy 2B / OF / Blue Valley West, KS / 2019

Roy is a 5-foot-9, 165-pound right-handed hitting middle infielder in Kansas’ 2019 class. He ran a 4.50 home-to-first and a posted an exit velocity of 80 mph. During batting practice, Roy starts in a balanced stance, quiet load, in line stride, minimal head movement, flat bat path, showed line drives to LF, singled during game action. Defensively, Roy showed fluid footwork, range to his glove side, long arm action, high ¾ arm slot, clean transfers, momentum towards first base, positional velo of 74 mph, accurate throws.

Carson Shively 3B / OF / Maize, KS / 2019

Shively has a large frame and strong build at 6-foot-1, 195 pounds. He is a right-handed hitting infielder in Kansas’ 2019 class from Maize HS. He ran a 7.09 60, 4.50 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 91 mph, one of top velocities at the event. At the plate, Shively has a quiet load, in line stride, flat barrel path, quick hands, showed line drives to CF and LF, during game action he had a sacrifice fly for an RBI. Defensively, Shively shows his athleticism, fluid footwork, clean transfers, high ¾ release, clean arm action, positional velo of 82 mph, accurate throws.

Brooks Shuler 3B / RHP / Washburn Rural, KS / 2019

Shuler is a strong bodied 6-foot-3, 195-pound right-handed pitcher and infielder in Kansas’ 2019 class out of Topeka’s Washburn Rural HS. He ran a 4.65 home-to-first and posted and exit velocity of 82 mph. During batting practice, Shuler starts with an open stance, toe taps into his load, loose hands, remains balanced throughout his swing, showed above average pop to left field, during game action hit a single to left field. Defensively, he attacks the baseball, clean transfers, ¾ arm slot, positional velo of 71 mph, mostly accurate throws. On the mound, Shuler’s delivery is directional, uses a hand tap to trigger his hands, gains momentum down the mound, fastball is 68-71mph, thrown for strikes, uses a 2 seam for arm side run, curveball has 11-to-5 shape at 57-60 mph, gradual bite, changeup is 57-60 mph.

Jaxon Sullivan 2B / SS / Shawnee Heights, KS / 2019

Sullivan is a 5-foot-5, 135-pound left-handed hitting middle infielder in Kansas’ 2019 class from Shawnee Heights HS. He ran a 7.13 60, 3.98 home-to-first, quickest time at the event, and posted an exit velocity of 79 mph. During batting practice, Sullivan has a balanced set up, quiet load, in line stride, high finish with hands, works inside the baseball, showed contact to all fields, singled during game action. Defensively, Sullivan showed good range to both glove side and backhand, fluid footwork, clean and quick transfers, quick arm action, high ¾ arm slot, positional velo of 71 mph, very accurate throws.

Wyatt Towe SS / 3B / Rock Bridge, MO / 2019

Towe has an athletic build at 5-foot-11, 165 pounds and is a right-handed hitting infielder from Missouri’s Rock Bridge HS. He ran a 6.86 60, 4.28 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 84 mph. During batting practice, Towe has a simple weight shift load, quick hands, slightly closed stride, flat bat path, extension through the baseball, ball jumps off the barrel, contact to all fields, doubled during game action. Kruz Wahwahsuck 3B / RHP / Leavenworth, KS / 2019

Wahwahsuck has a strong build at 5-foot-11 and 185 pounds. He is a right-handed hitting middle infielder from Kansas’ Leavenworth HS. He ran a 4.72 home-to-first and posted an exit velocity of 80 mph. During batting practice, Wahwahsuck starts in a relaxed open stance, in line stride, quiet load, loose hands, minimal head movement, showed hard contact to LF, singled during game action. Defensively, Wahwahsuck had mostly accurate throws, positional velo of 74 mph, long and clean arm action, high ¾ arm slot, clean transfers, ball had some carry.
