Unsigned Senior Spotlight: Drake Duncan
October 14, 2011
Drake Duncan, C, Ben Davis HS
Duncan is one of the better unsigned seniors left on the board. He may be undersized, but his competitiveness is unmatched in the 2012 class. He is a tenacious baseball player with quick feet behind the plate. He is consistently under a 2.0 pop time with a strong arm and athletic frame. At the plate he shows good pop with the ability to drive the ball to all fields. Duncan is a must follow this upcoming season.
PBR Indiana had the opportunity to talk with Duncan about his junior year, the recruiting process and his upcoming season at Ben Davis:
PBR: As you enter your senior year of HS, where are you currently in the recruiting process?
Drake: I'm enjoying the recruiting process, I have gotten the opportunity to talk with several college coaches and visit some campuses. I’m looking forward to extending my baseball career for several more years after high school.
PBR: What schools are you most interested in right now, and why?
Drake: Right now the schools I'm looking into are Walters St., Parkland, and Louisburg College. These are some schools that I have spoken with and have showed some interest in me. I plan to learn more about their schools, and baseball program.
PBR: What aspect of your game do you believe needs the most improvement?
Drake: The aspect of my game I believe I need to improve on is blocking baseballs a little better.
PBR: What are your goals for the upcoming 2012 season?
Drake: My goals for my upcoming baseball season are about the same every season, that’s to work the hardest, and to be the best player I can be.
PBR: You played for the Indiana Bulls this summer, how do you feel playing for them helped you?
Drake: Playing with the Bulls for the past 4 seasons has helped me out a lot. The coaches have always put us in front of as many college scouts as possible and we got to play the best competition out there. I have been fortunate enough to have some of the best coaches since I was 9 years old. Also my parents they've been the best life coaches for me. They've been the best support, I have a younger sister Haley (16) who plays travel softball, and two younger brothers Dalton (11) and Diesel (8) they play baseball to. (Also play football and wrestle) and my parents manage to make it to all of our games and meets.
PBR: What is your fondest memory or highlight from your 2011 baseball season (High School or Summer)?
Drake: My most memorable moment this past High School season had to be when Ben Davis was playing the first round of county against North Central , I think it was my 2nd at bat the count was either 2-2 or 3-2 with 2 outs bases loaded it was one of those pressure situations every good hitter wants to be in and I won the battle hit a line drive over the center field fence. The BEST part about that was later in the game I hit another 3 Run Homer.
For my summer season with the Bulls I have many memories the one that stands out to me the most was when I hit a Grand Slam on Arkansas field against the D-Bat Mustangs from Texas.
PBR: What were your stats for your 2011 HS season? Summer Season?
Drake: I thought I had a real good season hitting, My high school stats I had 42 hits, 9 doubles, 2 triples, 11 homeruns, 34 RBI, 7 stolen bases, .483 BA, 1.011 SLG .553 OBP. I didn't have access to my summer stats, but felt I did pretty well.
