The Prep Baseball Report Prospect Identification showcase on Oct. 8th at Lawrence North HS featured some impressive players in the 2012 and 2013 classes.  Here’s a look at the showcase results from this past Sunday:

Josh Van Meter, SS/RHP, Norwell HS 2013:  Van Meter is a 5-foot-11 inch, 155 pound shortstop with great athletic ability.  In the field he shows a strong arm across the diamond at 83-84 mph.  He possesses plus defensive actions, with good range and quick feet.  Everything about him says he’s one of the premier shortstops in the 2013 class.  At the plate he displays a good base and smooth load, producing a line drive swing with some pop.  At the event Van Meter ran a 7.11 sixty, and event best.  He is a high follow this upcoming spring.

Aaron Parker, LHP, South Putnam HS, 2013:  Parker is a 6-foot-4 inch, 170 pound left handed pitcher with good projectability.  He shows a low ¾ arm slot with good whip action.  His fastball is a consistent 80-82 mph, but projects to be in the mid-80’s by spring.  He throws two off speed pitches; a 68-72 mph breaking ball and a 71-72 mph changeup.  He is a must follow this upcoming spring.

Austin Dettmer, OF/MIF, Norwell HS, 2013:  Dettmer is a 5-foot-11 inch, 165 pound outfielder.  He shows solid mechanics from the outfield with good arm strength at 82-83 mph.  In the infield he projects as a second baseman with above average fielding ability.  At the plate he shows an open stance and the ability to hit to all fields.  His strength is letting the ball get deep and taking it to the right center gap.  Dettmer ran a 7.16 sixty at the event.

Kyle Williams, 3B/RHP, Southmont HS, 2012:  Williams is a 6-foot, 180 pound 3B/RHP with good athleticism and a strong build.  He shows good arm strength both in the field and on the mound.  In the field he shows good actions and is 79-80 across the diamond.  On the mound he’s consistently in the low 80’s with good life on his fastball.  He throws two off speed pitches; a 68-70 mph breaking ball and a 70-72 mph changeup.  This past spring and summer Williams has been up to 83-85 mph with his fastball.  At the plate he shows a smooth load with a short stride and shows the ability to hit to all fields.  He displays some pop.

Cory Reed, C, Fishers HS, 2013:  Reed is a 5-foot-11 inch, 175 pound catcher.  He is a consistent 2.0-2.07 with his pop time.  At the plate he’s able to take the ball up the middle consistently.  Reed’s frame projects to add muscle, and combined with his athleticism he’s someone to keep an eye on this spring.

Jacob Troxell, C, Lapel HS, 2013:  Troxell is a 5-foot-11 inch, 175 pound catcher.  He showed an event best 1.95 pop time, and was consistently in the 2.00-2.06 range.

Cole Deneen, C/3B, Penn HS, 2013:  Deneen is a big bodied catcher at 5-foot-11 inches and 205 pounds.  At the plate he displayed good pop and was a consistent line-drive hitter.  With more use of his lower half, he should produce even more power.
