Landsharks Scout Day - Quick Hits
August 30, 2024
On Sunday, August 18th, the Prep Baseball Indiana staff traveled to Four Winds Field, home of the South Bend Cubs, the High-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, to host the Landsharks Scout Day. Players ranging from the 2025 to 2028 classes displayed their talent in front of our staff - find the full statistics from this event, HERE.

+ '25 RHP Brody Zielinski (South Bend Saint Joseph) peppered the zone with a quality three pitch arsenal in his bullpen. The proportional, 6-foot, 185 pounder provided the look of a next level starter, displaying outstanding arm action to pair with the aformentioned stuff + pitch-ability to earn the starters' tab. The arm works clean on the backside with a loose whip to a high 3/4 release, combined with dynamic balance throughout the delivery. Zielinski commanded a lively heater, spinning north of 2400, at 84-86 mph (up to 88 previously) to both sides of the dish. The fastball is paired with quality feel for spin, and the breaking ball worked in the low-to-mid 70's with sweeper properties. To round out his mix, Brody showed a mid-to-upper 70's split, a pitch that he is able to kill spin on (1700s) and generate tumbling action with.

+ '25 RHP Kyler Kaczmarski (Penn) was an interesting watch with several traits to dream on, beginning with his lengthy, athletic, 6-foot-3, 185 pound frame. The arm works to a full circle before accelerating to a 3/4 release height, creating arm side run on a mid 80's (T86) fastball. His fastball has reached into the upper 80's in front of our staff in previous looks, and still holds room for growth as he packs muscle onto his projectable frame. Kaczmarksi showed two breaking balls, both working in the mid 70's with a slider that showed true sweeper shape and a curveball that showed similar properties, with slightly more depth to provide a bit of differention. Kaczmarski committed to Southwestern Iowa CC shortly after this event.

+ '27 SS Grady Harrell (Penn) was my favorite underclassmen in attendance. Despite being one of the younger players on the field, Harrell began the day by burning an event-best 6.89 60-yard dash. The 5-foot-10, 155 pounder has made very solid gains since our last look (Preseason All-State in March) with still plenty of growth to be had in a frame that is still immature, and he cut his 60-time down by 0.4 seconds since March. Setting up in a a balanced stance in the left-handed batter's box, Harrell makes a small weight shift into his back leg as he lifts his hands to a launch position, turning the barrel on a level plane with some whip to contact. Defensively, the feet are the carrying attribute and they couple with sure-handed glove actions. Harrell's growth in a short time window will see him rise up the '27 rankings in our next update, coming in just a few short weeks.
