Brebeuf, Norwell, Andrean Round Robin



 

Game 1: Brebeuf 4 Norwell 3 F/8
 
Indianapolis, IN ? The first game in the round robin saw a great pitching battle between sophomore Josh Vanmeter of Norwell and Junior Connor Hale of Brebeuf. Hale had his fastball between 86-88 mph all game, topping out at 90 and Vanmeter sat around 83 mph, topping out at 84. Vanmeter allowed just three hits and Hale allowed four.
 
Norwell jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Vanmeter lead off the game with a single then Senior Noah Patten earned a one out walk. The following batter reached on an error allowing both runners to score. Hale would only allow one runner to reach in the next 15 at bats.
 
Vanmeter cruised through the first three innings not allowing a hit, but Brebeuf was able to get on the board in the fourth. Senior Andy Enright lead off the fourth with an opposite field line drive double. Vanmeter struck out the next batter, but sophomore Chase Shaw was able to hit a single that drove in the run. Brebeuf scored again in the fifth to tie the game at two.
 
The game would stay tied through the 7th inning, when Vanmeter lead off the top of the 8th with a single. He would make it to third base with two outs and Senior Landon Curry hit a line drive to give Norwell the 3-2 lead.
 
Senior John Hardeman led off the bottom of the inning with a walk. He would get sacrificed over to second base. With the tying runner on second Sophomore Joey Perkins stepped into the batter?s box needing just a single to tie the game back up. He did a little more than that driving a fastball over the fence to give Brebeuf the 4-3 victory.

Game 2 Andrean 17 Norwell 2
 
Indianapolis, IN ? Andrean?s bats came out early and often in game two of the round robin. The offense fire power allowed Senior Mike Hanchar to work easily through the Norwell lineup to pick up the pitching victory.
 
Andrea jumps on the board early scoring four runs in the bottom of the first. After two of the first three batters reached sophomore Zac Ryan drove a ball deep over the left field fence to get Andrean?s scoring underway. After the next two batters singled Junior Zach Goldasich drove in the fourth run of the inning.
 
Andrean would score two more in the second off of a RBI double by Ryan and a RBI single by Senior Cam Cooper.
Andrean really opened the game up in the 3rd with a seven run inning. The inning would consist of only three hits, but all were RBI singles. The RBI singles were of the bats of Cooper, Senior Tyler Ochi, and sophomore Jeremy Wright.
 
Andrean would pick up four more runs in the bottom of the fourth. The inning was highlighted with pinch hit doubles from Juniors Nick Tobye and Joe Pruitt.
 
Every starter for Andrean would either get a hit or score a run. The play of the game was made by Pruitt in right field. A hard line drive off the bat of a Norwell hitter sent Pruitt into a dead spring towards the gap and a full extension dive lead to the catch of the day.

Game 3: Brebeuf 3 Andrean 2
 
Indianapolis, IN ? The final game featured the second pitching battle of the day between Junior Cody Haver of Andrean and Junior Nick Meyers of Brebeuf. Both pitchers cruised through the first four innings without allowing much of anything.
 
The first real threat did come in the fourth inning when Brebeuf had a leadoff singled by Andy Enright. Connor Hale followed the singled with a line drive to the fence, but Andrean got the ball in quickly and Enright ran through a stop sign at third getting into a run down. Andrean got Enright out at home and Hale tried to advance to third, but was thrown out when he slid onto the third baseman?s leg, never touching the base.
 
Andrean finally broke up the 0-0 game in the top of the 5th. Cam Cooper got the first hit off of Meyers with a leadoff single. Meyers would hit the next batter and Haver would sacrifice the runners over. Nick Tobye would come up next and break the tie with an RBI single to right field. Meyers settled down and struck out the next two batters ending the threat.
 
The game would go into the 7th with Andrean still holding a 1-0 lead. Tobye would reach base on another single and after making it to second pinch hitter Junior Mike Brosseau would drive Tobye in on a single.
 
With a 2-0 Haver looked to have the game wrapped up going into the bottom of the 7th. Haver got the first batter out, but allowed a singled to Meyers. After retiring the next batter Andrean changed pitchers with the top of the order for Brebeuf coming to the plate. John Hardeman would get a two out single to extend the game followed by a RBI double from Junior Mike Paisley to cut the deficit to one. Then it was game one?s hero Joey Perkins turn again and again he delivered hitting a line drive up the middle to score both runs and giving Brebeuf another walk off victory.
