Director, PBR Indiana
Today's Unsigned Senior Spotlight is on SS, Nick DeFreese, out of Concord High School. DeFreese is ranked as the No. 59 prospect in Indiana's 2014 class, and has attended multiple PBR events throughout his high school career, including last summer's Top Prospect Games at Indiana University.
DeFreese is a 6-foot-1, 195 pound unsigned senior that runs a sub 7 60 at 6.93. He's possesses athletic actions defensively with a strong arm across the diamond at 80 mph. The feet are a little heavy for a shortstop, but does show some range with a solid glove.
At the plate he hits from both sides. From the right he starts with wide base and starts with his hands high. He loads back with an inward turn of the front knee. The swing path can get long at times, but does possess good bat speed (90 mph exit velo).
From the left side DeFreese uses a high leg kick. The swing plane is uphill and shows some projectable power. He's more raw mechanically from the left side than he is from the right side of the plate.
