No. 9

Scouting Report

4/23/2019 Spring Scout Blog: No. 1 ranked prospect in Indiana's 2021 class. Long, athletic frame at 6-foot-4, 185 pounds. Shows good control of his body for his size and age. Athletic movements in all facets of his game. Defensively, shows fluid actions with above average glove work; soft hands, clean exchange. Arm action is a little long at times; plenty of arm strength to stay on the left side of the field at the next level. Shows range to both his left and right with athletic footwork. Great feel for the SS position. Offensively the LHH hits from an athletic crouch setup, using a leg kick timing trigger. Load is smooth, quick bat speed through the zone. Divey at times. Went 2-4 with a HR and 2RBI on the night. High level D1 prospect with tons of projectability. Excels in multiple sports: football & basketball.

5/30/2018: 6-foot-4 athletic frame with long levers. Instantly see the athleticism. Hits from a wide stance with slight toe drag in his load. Hits on front foot and is divey. Fixable mechanical issues. Projectable pull side power. In night cap hit a home run. Defensively, made a play up the middle look easy. Undecided defensively where he ends up at the next level. The athleticism suggests he is a middle of the field type prospect while the body type suggests he could end up at a corner position. Montgomery is a three sport athlete. He averages 18ppg on the basketball court and is considered widely as a top basketball recruit as well. He also plays football and is the quarterback. Baseball, however, seems to come naturally. It is not a refined, mechanical approach to the game, tons of athletic upside and projection.
