Sophomore and Unsigned Senior Lead Cardinal Ritter to City Championship Game
May 8, 2012
Cardinal Ritter sophomore Logan Beaman and unsigned senior Hayden Cleveland both had great performances last night as they helped Cardinal Ritter beat Covenant Christian in the City Tournament semi-final game .
All four runs by Cardinal Ritter came off the bat of the left handed first basemen Beaman who tripled in the first scoring Jake Purichia (2014). Beaman homered to right center in the third bringing in two runs, and then homered again in the fifth to left giving Cardinal Ritter their fourth and final run.
On the defensive side, left handed unsigned senior Hayden Cleveland held Covenant Christian to just one run on two hits and struck out nine. Cleveland’s fastball was consistently 82-84 while touching 85 on a couple of occasions. He also showed a 12/6 curveball with late break at 65-69 mph. Cleveland located his pitches well and kept the ball down, keeping the Covenant hitters off the base paths for most of the night.
Cardinal Ritter will take on the winner of Cathedral and Heritage Christian for the City Championship Thursday May, 17th at 8:00 pm at Victory Field, the Triple A home of the Indianapolis Indians.
