Q&A with University of Michigan Commit Mac Lozer
November 12, 2012
PBR: Why did you choose Michigan?
Lozer: I chose the University of Michigan for many reasons. Most importantly is their renowned academic program. The second greatest factor was the baseball program. Coach Erik Bakich and his coaching staff are new to Michigan this year and I am very excited for what they bring to the Michigan baseball program. Other factors, such as distance from home, campus feeling, and becoming an immediate impact player also played a role in my decision.
PBR: Where did Michigan first see you compete?
Lozer: Michigan first saw me compete during fall ball with the Indiana Bulls. They continued to see me during the fall and finally in Jupiter, Fl.
PBR: What other schools did you consider?
Lozer: Other schools I considered were Virginia Tech, Wright State, Miami of Ohio, and Navy.
PBR: You play for the Indiana Bulls during the summer, describe what that experience has been like? What was your most memorable summer baseball moment?
Lozer: I am forever thankful to the Indiana Bulls Organization for this past summer season. Coaches Dan Held, Jered Moore, and Quinn Moore brought me into the Bulls family and I have had the experience of a lifetime. My summer coaches, Coach Jeff Mercer, Coach Em Carney, and Coach Mark Pieper, were the backbone for a very successful and memorable summer with the Indiana Bulls. The most memorable part of last summer’s season was being around a great group of guys and being successful on the diamond.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Lozer: My dad, Jeff. My father played baseball at Davidson College and has taught me everything I know about the game. From being a coach, to a mentor, and to a parent, there has not been one person who has contributed more to my love of the game than my father.
PBR: Heading into your senior year at North Central (Indianapolis), what are your goals individually and as a team?
Lozer: My goals individually are to continue to develop as a baseball player and contribute to my high school team as much as possible. Our team goal is ultimately to play our best on a consistent basis. If we can do this, we will find success. We have the personnel, work ethic, and determination to make it to Victory Field in mid-June.
PBR: What aspect of your game do you believe needs the most improvement?
Lozer: I would like to improve the command of all of my pitches and make another velocity jump over the off-season.
PBR: What were your stats this past spring/ summer?
Lozer: My summer stats with the Indiana Bulls were: IP- 44; R- 9; ER- 9; BB-16; K-53; ERA- 1.43; Record- 4-1, 2 SV
PBR: Have you decided on a major, or narrowed it down?
Lozer: I would like to pursue the Ross School of Business at U of M.
