Q&A with IPFW Commit Jackson Boyce
October 11, 2012
Jackson Boyce is a 5'11 athletic MIF from Leo High School that recently committed to IPFW. The 47th ranked player in the class of 2013 impressed PBR last year at the Goshen Showcase. He ran a 6.82 sixty, showed a strong arm across the field and had a quick bat with good pop. PBR had a chance to talk with Jackson about his commitment...
PBR: Why did you choose IPFW?
Jackson: I chose IPFW because I really liked Coach Pierce and Assistant Coach Rinearson. I also like what Coach Pierce is doing with the program and want to be a part of it.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Jackson: Other schools I considered were Liberty, High Point, Evansville, and Huntington.
PBR: Where did IPFW’s coaches first see you? How did your relationship develop throughout the recruiting process?
Jackson: I was first seen by IPFW at their fall showcase camp my junior year, and then they saw me play this summer. After that I visited the campus and stayed in contact with the Coach Pierce and it felt like the right place for me.
PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Jackson: They want me to learn their system, work hard to contribute, and utilize my speed.
PBR: What team do you play for in the summer and what was your most memorable experience?
Jackson: The last two years I have played for the US Athletics. My most memorable baseball experience was playing for Team Indiana at the Crossroads Championship Series.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Jackson: My dad, who is also my high school coach.
PBR: What were your stats for this past High School and/or summer season?
Jackson: This past high school season I hit .437, scored 42 runs, and had 23 RBI and 19 SB.
PBR: What is your routine during the offseason? Is there anything in particular you are focusing on?
Jackson: After football ends, I lift weights, work on agility and conditioning, and spend time in the batting cage. One area of focus this year will be to build more core strength.
PBR: What are your team and personal goals heading into your senior season?
Jackson: My goal is to contribute to our team so that we can be successful on the baseball field, win another conference championship, and also go as far as we can in the state tournament.
