Q&A with 2017 Indiana University Commit; Elijah Dunham (Evansville Reitz)
July 14, 2014
By Phil Wade
Director, PBR Indiana
Indiana University and newly hired Head Coach Chris Lemonis received a verbal commitment from 2017 outfielder Elijah Dunham of Evansville Reitz HS.
PBR: Ultimately, why did you choose IU?
Dunham: I picked IU because I wanted to play for Coach Lemonis. We share the the same faith, and I think he can best prepare me for my ultimate goal which is to play professionally one day.
PBR: Were there any other schools you were considering?
Dunham: I was also considering Louisville.
PBR: You just completed your freshman season at Reitz, was there a reason for committing so early?
Dunham: There was no reason for committing early, I just couldn't think of anywhere else I would have wanted to play.
PBR: Where did IU/Coach Lemonis first see you compete?
Dunham: He first saw me at Louisville camp in 8th grade. The first game he saw me in was at a Perfect Game tournament game in Georgia this summer.
PBR: When did you take your first visit to IU?
Dunham: My first visit was on July 8th.
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and how has playing for them helped you as a baseball player?
Dunham: I play for the Ironmen out of Louisville, and they have helped me become the ball player I am today.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Dunham: My Dad.
PBR: What were your stats this spring at Reitz?
Dunham: My batting average was .371 and my on base percentage was .421.
PBR: Now that you've committed and you have three more years of HS, what will your goal(s) be as a HS player?
Dunham: My goal for HS is to win a 4A state championship. With the young players we have, it is very possible.
