Preseason All-State (2021) Spotlight: C/3B Hunter Dobbins

The annual Invite Only Preseason All-State Showcase for the top 2021 prospects is coming up Saturday February 29th at Roundtripper Sports Academy in Westfield, IN. Leading up to the event we will highlight some of the top prospects to be in attendance.
Scouting Report
2/23/2019: Hunter Dobbins, C/3B, Mount Vernon HS, 2021, 6 foot 1, 200 pounds, uses weight shift to load and separates well to get to launch. Uses strong lower half to help generate above average bat speed as he posted a max exit velo of 93 mph. Shows ability to be a good 3B/C combo at the next level. Has good feet and hands at both positions and also has the arm strength to arm strength as he threw 85 mph across the infield and 78 mph from behind the plate and had pop times ranging from 1.94-2.00. Hunter is a very intriguing 2021 follow.
9/30/18: 2021 C with solid catchers build at 6’1 205 lbs. Hits from the right side and starts slightly open. Uses lift/tuck as timing trigger. Showed gap to gap approach and showed power to both. Posted 85 mph exit velocity. Showed soft hands on the infield, could use more lateral quickness. Posses good arm across the diamond posting 83 mph infield velocity. Decent footwork and good exchange behind the dish. Posted 1.97 pop
7/24/18: Strong build 2021 catcher/3B hits from the side. Uses slightly open athletic setup in the box. Showed power potential with the bat, working both gaps to the deep parts of the field during BP. Uses leg lift/tuck trigger, stays balanced throughout swing. Bat path is slightly uphill and showed ability to lift the baseball. Posted an exit velo of 85. In the field showed soft footwork and hands for size. Arm strength across the diamond was 83. Behind the dish showed a quick exchange with good footwork. Throws were around the bag and pops were in the 1.97-2.03 range.
9/10/17: 60 Time: 7.88, Position Velocity: INF-72,C-69 Exit Velocity: 80. Physical, 6-foot, 210 pound freshman backstop and corner infielder uses thick lower half and leverage to drive the baseball pull side. Uses a big leg kick to gather, load and stride, hands and barrel stay neutral but start in strong position with barrel working above helmet. Commits early to pitch to hit, struggles with timing and keeping weight back on outer half pitch, hips slide and front side out early. Big bat for age, took BP rounds with pull side pop and lift, average bat speed. More bat speed and consistency in swing to be developed. Corner infielder, low ¾ arm slot across the diamond, inconsistent ball flight. More foot speed and range to play on left side. Behind the plate, one hand catch to throw, transfer is clean and quick to release, feet work average. Shoulders work uphill, tall to throw, more arm strength and better ball flight to be developed. Pop times sat 2.12-2.22 to second base.
