Hamilton Heights 3, Carmel 1

Carmel, IN – Baseball season was back on Monday with Hamilton Heights picking up their first win of the season. The pitchers highlighted the day for both teams as Hamilton Heights was able to beat Carmel 3-1. Hamilton’s pitching allowed just three hits and Carmel gave up six.

University of Illinois-Chicago commit, Tyler Anderson, started on the mound for Hamilton Heights and he held Carmel hitless until the fourth inning. Anderson got the win going five innings allowing just one hit, giving up on unearned run, striking out six, and picking off three runners.  "Tyler (Anderson) threw well for us tonight and put us in a position to win. A month from now he may well finish a game like that, but at this point in the season he had gone long enough,” Coach Rick Hawley said after the game. Spencer Dull threw the final two scoreless innings to pick up the save.

Hamilton Heights broke the scoreless tie in the fourth inning when they loaded the bases on three consecutive one out singles. After a Carmel pitching change Ethan Engelhardt laid down a perfect suicide squeeze to bring in the first run. Hamilton would add another run in the inning on a RBI fielder’s choice from Phoenix Cox. Hamilton Heights added an insurance run after Logan Cunningham walked, stole second (two steals on the day), and scored on a Colton Elbrecht RBI single to left.

Carmel would get their only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth. With two out Jack Thompson tripled down the right field line and would score on a passed ball. Carmel used four different pitchers in the game that limited HH to just the six hits. Nick Horvath and Ryan Campbell each threw two innings of scoreless baseball.
