PBR Scouting Staff

The PBR Fall Championships are underway at Grand Park in Westfield, IN. 40 travel teams from across the Midwest are competing in two divisions, an Upperclass and Underclass with more than 100 scouts and college recruiters in attendance. There will be continuous scout blogs each day covering the Upperclass and Underclass divisions.

CANGELOSI SPARKS

Christian Knapczyk, SS, Joliet Catholic Academy HS, IL (2020)
Louisville recruit, currently ranked No. 4 in Illinois’ 2020 class, No. 90 overall. 5-foot-9, 150-pound left-handed hitting middle infielder. All-around baseball player, does everything on the field well. Plays with a high-motor with highest-level baseball I.Q. Showed off all his tools during the Sparks’ win over the Nebraska Prospects. Dropped down a bunt single, getting down the line in 3.75 seconds. Also beat out a chopper to the third baseman, 4.09 down the line. Roped a triple to right field, also walked, stole a base. Against Indiana Prospects, drove an outside fastball to the left field corner for a two RBI double, 4.3 on the turn. Defensively, makes every play, ranges exceptionally well to both sides, light on the feet and plays well on the move.

Ryan Cermak, RHP, Riverside-Brookfield HS, IL (2019)
Illinois State recruit, currently ranked No. 67 in Illinois’ 2019 class. 6-foot-1, 175-pound right-hander closed out the game for the Sparks pumping 89-90, striking out the side with all strikes. Works fast with lots of funk in the delivery - hip coil, short stride, a little hop at foot strike and leg-kick finish. Arm works fast and is quick out front. Tough look for hitters.

Ryan Cermak (9.15.18)

Austin Greco, RHP/OF, Mundelein HS, IL (2020)
Uncommitted, currently ranked No. 31 in Illinois’ 2020 class. 5-foot-10, 165-pound two-way talent. Pitched well in relief for the Sparks, sitting 86-88, topping at 89, with big arm-side life. Consistently ran his fastball back in over the plate against right-handers. Also mixed in a 77-78 slider and 76 mph changeup. Offensively, crushed a triple to centerfield against the Nebraska Prospects. Against Indiana Prospects, collected two extra base hits; a triple to the left center gap and a ground rule double to the pull side corner. Continued to show off his offensive prowess on Championship Sunday. Broke the semi-final game open with a two-run double down the right-field line.
