Oct. 20th Unsigned Senior Showcase: Outfield Analysis

On Sunday, October 20th PBR Indiana hosted the fall Unsigned Senior Showcase at Bishop Chatard High School in Indianapolis. Forty players in the class of 2014 from Indiana and three player from KY, IL, and MO participated in the event. Below we analyze the outfielders from the event.
Top 10
1. Evan Sandmann, OF, Lincoln Way East HS (IL), 2014: 6-foot 160 pound senior hits from the left side. Overall solid hitter. Relies heavily on his hands. Uses a slight leg kick and keeps bat in the zone for a long time. Showcased good loft, suggesting he should hit for some power at the next level. 82 mph Exit Velo. From the OF was 85 mph with good arm strength and carry. Plays through the baseball well. All around athletic OF, projecting well at the next level.
2. Connor Kupier, OF, Penn HS, 2014: 6-foot-3, 190 pound senior recently committed to Parkland. Offensively shows high level bat speed. Hits downhill. Possesses projectable power. 89 mph exit velo. In the OF was 83 mph, but have seen him up to 88 mph. Moves well and gets rid of it quickly. Solid player.
3. Jimmy Yates, OF, Franklin Central HS, 2014: 6-foot-2, 205 pound senior recently committed to Kentucky Wesleyan. Projects as an offensive corner OF. Possesses good bat speed with strength. Aggressive approach at the plate and never gets cheated. Posted an exit velo of 87 mph. From the OF was 82 mph. Ran a 7.08 60.
4. Logan Beaman, OF, Cardinal Ritter HS, 2014: 5-foot-10, 190 pound senior possess a wide, strong frame. At the plate possesses good bat speed. Starts slightly open with a slight leg kick. Barrels up a lot of baseballs. Good power with a 88-90 mph exit velo. All around good swing. In the OF was 79 mph, projects as a LF. Clean exchange. Needs to improve footwork. Runs better than his frame suggests with a 7.10 60 time.
5. Jake Gholston, OF, Boone Grove HS, 2014: 5-foot-10, 170 pound senior continues to show improvement with each event he attends. Offensively hits from the left side and starts with a high back elbow. Shows good bat speed (81 mph Exit Velo) and athleticism. Works uphill with projectable power. From the OF was 71 mph. Projects to be more of a LF. Best tool is his bat. Ran a 7.25 60.
6. Jon Knies, OF, Franklin Central HS, 2014: 5-foot-10, 170 pound senior hits from the left side of the plate with a slight crouch. Starts slightly open with a leg kick. Short and compact swing. High contact hitter. From the OF was 81 mph. Gets rid of the ball well with a clean exchange. Solid defensively. Ran a 7.11 60.
7. Zack St. Pierre, OF, Noblesville HS, 2014: 6-foot-1, 175 pound senior starts open with a good setup at the plate. Simple load with a balanced approach to attack the baseball. Good swing plane with a clean finish. Needs to continue to add strength. From the OF was 84 mph with accurate throws. Moves well with little effort. Ran a 7.2 60.
8. Hayden Robb, OF, Jeffersonville HS, 2014: 5-foot-10, 160 pound senior starts open at the plate in an athletic crouch position. Possesses some twitch in his hips and hands. Needs to add more strength. Posted an 83 mph exit velo. From the OF was 81 mph from an over the top arm slot. Good carry in his throws. Ran a 7.0 60.
9. Andrew Wilson, OF, Noblesville HS, 2014: 6-foot-180 pound senior starts wide with no stride at the plate. Simple approach and hits everything out front. Changes head plane. Stays balanced throughout the swing. From the OF showcased a quick arm action at 81 mph. Gets rid of the baseball with quick, clean exchange. Plays through the ball well. Ran an event best 6.83 60.
10. Fabian Munoz, OF, Seymour HS, 2014: 5-foot-10, 165 pound senior possesses a slender frame with a strong base. Offensively starts slightly open with a little bit of a hip slide. Consistently makes contact. Lacks premium power. Good balance throughout. Lower half is stiff. From the OF was 75 mph. Ran a 7.16 60.
Best of the Rest (In alphabetical order)
Brent Blackwell, OF, Daleville HS, 2014: 5-foot-10, 185 pound senior displayed good balance throughout his swing. Lower half lacks involvement. Exit velo was 72 mph. From the OF was 71 mph. Shows a clean exchange with the ability to get rid of the baseball. Ran a 7.94 60.
Christopher Campbell, OF, Bloomington North HS, 2014: 5-foot-9, 155 pound senior possesses a slender frame. At the plate uses a double tap load and gets really wide at contact. Exit velo was 65 mph. From the OF was 66 mph. Ran a 7.25 60.
Brandon Garcia, OF Griffith HS, 2014: 5-foot-7, 165 pound senior possesses a small frame. At the plate starts open with a bat waggle. Stride is short. Short and quick to the baseball with his swing. Lacks elite bat speed. From the OF was 79 mph and ran a 7.27 60.
