No. 10 Munster blanks No. 5 Hobart 4-0, Evens the Season Series
April 18, 2014
MUNSTER---No. 5 Hobart and No. 10 Munster faced off on Thursday afternoon, with Munster looking for revenge a 7-1 loss the day before. Senior Sam Bell was given the ball for Munster and he did not disappoint, keeping the Hobart offense off balance all game.
Bell, a Marian University commit, was dominant most of the evening with a good fastball up to 85 mph, but it was his curveball that kept the Hobart hitters from pushing across any runs, inducing lots of weakly hit groundballs. He had three innings where he sat down the Brickies offense in order, and had a period of 12 straight batters retired.
Munster scored first in the second inning off an error.
In the third Munster gave Bell a couple more runs of support of back to back one out singles from Joe Bryant and Alex Del Rio.started the offense. David Hladek lined a ball into right for an RBI single, bringing in Bryant. Alex Coccia then hit a ball into the gap in right center that scored Del Rio.
Tom DeCero would add another run to the Munster lead in the sixth with a sacrifice fly that brought in Grant Rademacher, who had singled earlier in the inning.
In the seventh Sam Bell picked up his fifth strikeout two start the inning, but gave up and single to Luke Budzielak and a walk to Tyler Kenjic. That ended the day for Bell and sophomore Connor Manous came on to close out the game. Manous shut the door on any potential rally getting the next two batters to hit into outs ending the game and giving Munster a 4-0 win.
