Madison Overcomes Early Deficit to Defeat North Harrison

MADISON – The Madison Cubs faced off against 3A foe North Harrisonon Tuesday afternoon. The game was tight throughout with the North Harrison Cougars jumping out to an early lead, however, the Cubs would battle back to eventually win the game.
In the top on the first inning, the Cougars loaded the bases thanks to two walks and a hit by pitch. Sophomore Alex Flock hit an RBI single to plate the first run of the game. The Cougars added one more run in the inning off a fielders choice.
The Cubs responded with two runs of their own in the second off three consecutive base hits from Ethan Leach, John McCarty and Sam McIlvain. Mcllvain's single drove in Leach for the first run of the inning while Alex Risk (pictured left) later delivered an RBI single tying things up. The Cubs would take the lead in the third inning off Derek Anderson's RBI hit to center.
With the bases loaded in the fifth Madison added two insurance runs off Leach and McCarty RBI hits giving the Cubs the 5-2 lead.
The Madison pitchers combined to allow just two hits while striking out 15 on the night. Starter Clark Vaughn pitched two innings, striking out five. Mcllvain threw three innings of relief allowing just one hit. Picking up the save was Leach who struck out six of the nine batters he faced.
