APRIL 1 - 4 SCOUTING NOTES

Max Clark, OF, Franklin Community HS, 2023 Vanderbilt University recruit

 Clark continues to show the improving opposite field power that has come this season with the swing change he made in the offseason. The barrel is on plane deep in the zone allowing him to backspin baseballs to the opposite field - hitting two doubles deep into the LCF gap in this look along with a sharp single to RF. The 6-foot-1, 200 pounder played a flawless CF, running underneath a ball in the LCF gap that most centerfielders at this level simply do not get to. While Max is under a massive microscope this spring with professional scouts flocking to Franklin Community High School, he has not disappointed, going 7 for 8 (.875) with 3 2Bs and a HR thus far.

Hudson Devaughan, RHP, Mooresville HS, 2026

 This 2026 arm has a chance to be a special talent and continues to impress each time we see him. The 6-foot-3, 175 pounder was absolutely electric early in this game, sitting 88-92 mph on a powerful fastball and flashing an advanced slider for the class at 76-79 mph. Hudson’s arm talent is outstanding, showing a quick and clean arm that will only continue to produce more velocity as he adds size/strength. Devaughan ran into trouble in the 3rd inning of his first career varsity start and finished with a final stat line of 3 IP, 1 H, 4 BB, 3 ER, and 7 K. With athletic bloodlines, advanced arm talent, and the frame to continue to develop - this uncommitted 2026 is undoubtedly a national-level prospect with a chance to creep into the mid-90s sooner rather than later. 

Kevin Reed, LHP, Martinsville HS, 2023 University of Evansville recruit

 Reed was outstanding in this look, going 5 â…“ IP, allowing just 2 H and 1 R, while striking out 13. A polished, 5-foot-10, 185 pounder - Reed was in complete control of his three-pitch mix, working a fastball at 88-90 T 92 mph to both sides of the plate, a sweeping, 75-77 mph slider, and a solid changeup at 79-81 mph to right-handed hitters. Reed is a bulldog on the mound, working quick and attacking hitters within the strike zone. The Evansville recruit held 88-90 mph on his fastball into the 5th inning, a very impressive feat for an early-April start.
