Hoosiers Pick Up Two Top 20 Prospects in 2014 Class
November 6, 2012
The 2014 6th ranked prospect Macy Holdsworth and 15th ranked prospect Khristian Reynolds, both members of Team Indiana at this year’s Under Armour Midwest Futures Games, recently committed to Indiana University and Head Coach Tracy Smith. The Hoosiers are coming off an impressive 2012 season where they finished second in the Big 10 and have high expectations heading into the 2013 season.
Holdsworth (Greensburg HS) was a highly sought after prospect after the Futures Games, getting lots of interest from many schools around the Midwest. The 5-foot-11, 165 pound short stop is solid in all facets of the game. Defensively, his hands work and can pick it well, while also displaying great footwork. He possesses good arm strength at 84 mph across the infield. At the plate, he shows a relaxed plate approach with good pop, producing backspin carry on the ball.
Reynolds (Avon HS) is an all-around solid baseball player, and like Holdsworth received a good amount of interest from schools after the Futures Games. The 5-foot-11, 165 pound middle infielder shows plus defensive actions, and can flat out pick it. His greatest tool is his arm strength, where he is 85 mph across the diamond. At the plate he barrels up a ton of balls, getting to extension well and producing good pop to all fields. The unknown is whether or not he will be used on the mound at Indiana. He’s coming off an arm injury from this past spring, but has been up to 85 with his fastball. He throws a solid changeup with late fade in the low to mid 70’s with a good arm action.
Both of these middle infielders bring a unique skill set to the Indiana baseball program. Reynolds has plus arm strength and Holdsworth possesses a potential middle of the order type bat. They showed good chemistry playing up the middle together for Team Indiana this past August, and will have the opportunity to continue to improve their chemistry this upcoming summer when they both play for the Indiana Bulls Black team.
