On Aug. 7, PBR Illinois hosted the annual Central Illinois Open at the Corn Crib. Soon after the event we took a quick look at some of the statistical standouts from the day. 

Yesterday, we took a look at the infielders in attendance and today we conclude the positional breakdown with the pitchers from the event. We broke down the top right-handed and left-handed arms separately. When it comes to right-handed arms, Kobe Essien (Mahomet-Seymour), an unsigned senior, made quite an impression at his first ever PBR event and came away as the top ranked pitcher. Essien has an athletic frame, quick arm, fastball up to 88 mph and a sharp-biting slider with swing-and-miss potential. 

Right behind Essien are a pair of high-follow 2022 arms with RHP Jack Bach (Normal University) leading the way. Bach has a physical, 6-foot-4, 200-pound frame, clean easy arm and fastball up to 85 mph. Bach’s stock will only improve as he firms up his curveball moving forward.

The top left-handed arm was 2022 Gavan Wernsing (Stewardson Strasburg). Wernsing has a thick, mature build, clean arm and tilt to his fastball that topped at 84 mph. Wernsing also featured an aggressive, sharp breaking ball and feel for a changeup.
