Top Tier Scout Day: North, West & South Takeaways

On June 4th, the Prep Baseball Illinois staff hosted the Top Tier Scout Day at Triton College in River Grove, Ill. Nearly 100 players participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball Illinois staff.

TOP TIER SOUTH

+ INF/C Isaac Goddard (Minooka, 2025) is another uncommitted rising senior to know from the day. He has room to fill out in the coming years with his 5-foot-11, 168-pound frame, boasting a high waist with a trim build. The right-handed hitter has a strong, flat swing, displaying some pop up the middle of the field, looking to have more power in the tank as he continues to fill out; maxing out at 94.4 mph for his EV with a 360’ max distance. Clean, simple actions defensively, attacks the ball in-stride. Strong arm from both the infield and outfield, topping at 82 mph from the INF and 87 mph from the OF.

+ INF/OF Adyn Edgar (Minooka, 2025) is an athletic prospect that stands in a 5-foot-10, 160-pound frame. He showed intrigue from the right side of the plate, displaying a loose and calm load with some bat speed through the zone and a slightly uphill path. He posted a max exit velocity of 88.3 mph and a max batted distance of 331 feet.

+ RHP Bralen Mitcham (Lincoln-Way East, 2025) showed a polished three-pitch mix during his ‘pen. A 6-foot-1, 187-pound frame with some strength throughout, Mitcham’s fastball sat 80-81 mph with mostly straight actions. He showed feel for two breaking balls; a slider with short, horizontal break, and a curveball with 11/5 shape that played towards the bottom of the zone.

TOP TIER WEST

+ C Jeff Hernandez Jr. (Oswego, 2026) displayed an upside swing that should continue to trend up throughout the coming years. The right-handed hitter has a simple and compact operation, working on top of the baseball with strong hands, reaching up to 93.9 mph for his max EV (322’ max distance).

+ RHP Blake Kopec (Geneva, 2026) threw one of the better sliders for the event. Sitting in the 65-67 mph range, it had slurve action while showcasing depth through the zone with an event high -11.4” IVB on average and -16.8” of horizontal movement on average. Kopec had above average feel for the pitch, displaying the ability to throw it for strikes as well with 2328 rpm of spin on average.

+ CIF Conor Tully (Oswego, 2026) swung the bat well at the event. At a well-proportioned 6-foot-1, 195-pounds with a visibly strong lower-half, Tully showcased the ability to hit for power from the right-side during batting practice. He posted an average exit velocity of 83.3 mph (T90.6) - which was good for top-15 for the event. Tully also reached an average distance of 261 feet (T324) during batting practice, which was another metric that landed him among the event’s top performers.

+ C/OF Kevin Bisbee (Minooka, 2025) is an uncommitted right-handed bat to know from the event. The lean 5-foot-11, 170-pound prospect reached a max exit velocity of 91.9 mph during batting practice to pair with a max distance of 319 feet. Bisbee showed a compact swing, while using the whole field during his round.

+ C Maximus Hetlet (Glenbard West, 2026) is another right-handed bat that showed well during batting practice. The strong and sturdy 5-foot-10, 195-pound prospect was on the barrel throughout batting practice with the ball jumping off the bat - posting an average exit velocity of 83.2 mph (T88.9), which was good for top-15 at the event.

TOP TIER NORTH

+ C Nick Sichel (New Trier, 2026) is a strong right-handed hitting backstop to know from the day. 5-foot-11, 188-pounds with present strength throughout. Quick, strong hands at the plate with a flat path, simple and controlled intent, showed power to his pull-side with intent to elevate. Created a max EV of 92.8 mph with a max distance of 325’. Steady actions behind the plate with a clean operation from the crouch, creating a pop-time as low as 2.01 with a 78 mph velocity from the chute.

+ INF Peter LaFontaine (Loyola Academy, 2026) is a lean 5-foot-9, 191-pound right-handed bat to know. He posted an average exit velocity of 83.4 mph (T91.6), which put him in the top-15 for the event in that category. LaFontaine also showed some of the stronger hands for the event (avg. 21 mph hand speed), while swinging with a level path that generates pop from his strong lower-half.

+ INF Robert Clingan (Loyola Academy, 2026) flashed barrel strength in his round of batting practice. The trim, athletic 5-foot-11, 160-pound right-handed hitter swung with a loose and handsy flat path that posted a max exit velocity of 90.2 mph. Clingan showed an overall polished approach during his round; using the whole field and hitting the ball where he was pitched.
