Team Illinois Future Games: Game 1 Recap

By: Illinois Scouting Staff

Team Illinois took on Team Wisconsin in Game One of the Future Games on Thursday and were defeated 3-2. Team Wisconsin led for the entire game, however Team Illinois had a chance to tie the game in the final frame.

The Illinois arms impressed in today’s game, only squandering five hits and one earned run in eight innings. RHP Paddy Roth (St. Patrick) got the start for Team Illinois, tossing two innings of one-run ball on two hits, one walk, while punching out two. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound righty worked his fastball up to 90 mph, while sitting 85-89. He would go to a 72-75 mph slider for swing and miss, while occasionally turning over a changeup at 80 mph.

Three Illinois arms in LHP Michael Pettit (Lincoln-Way West), RHP Connor Elenteny (Mt. Carmel), and RHP Chase Lockwood (Libertyville) would produce scoreless appearances in relief; combining for one hit allowed, one walk, and one strikeout.

RHP’s Kaeden Schatsiek (Brimfield, 2026) and Luke Blackwell (Valmeyer, 2026) closed out the game for Team Illinois and showed intrigue throughout their three combined innings of work.

Schatsiek stands at a strong 6-foot-3, 195-pounds, and was working his fastball in the upper 80’s, topping out at 90.5 mph.

Blackwell is a physical 6-foot-3, 200-pounds, and was strong in his two innings of work, allowing one run on one hit, one walk, while punching out two. He sat 87-89 mph with his fastball, touching 90 mph three different times over the course of his outing.

On the offensive side, MIF Landon Thome (Nazareth) and C Dylan Kassab (Hinsdale Central) both produced doubles in the game. Kassab’s double helped lead off a potential walk-off eighth inning for Illinois. C Adam Swanson (Ottawa) followed with a single, and C Brandon Thomsen (St. Viator) would walk to load the bases. A bases-loaded walk to Jory Crocker (Willowbrook), and a passed ball, would give Illinois a one-run deficit, but back-to-back strikeouts finished out the game for Team Illinois.
