Prep Baseball Illinois Player of the Week: Kameron Yearsley
April 23, 2024
OF Kam Yearsley (Yorkville, 2024; John A. Logan) is putting together one of the more impressive seasons in the state so far, and this past week was arguably his best to date as he helped the Foxes to a dominant 4-1 record dating back to Saturday the 13th. On the week, Yearsley finished 12-for-20 with four home runs, one triple, three doubles, 20 RBIs, 11 runs scored and three walks. For his efforts, he has been named this week’s Player of the Week.
In a 13-7 win over Metea Valley on the 13th, Yearsley went 2-for-5 with a home run, triple, four RBIs and two runs scored to start his dominant week.
He kept rolling right into Monday in a 15-5 win over West Aurora, going 2-for-3 with a home run, double, six RBIs, two runs scored and a walk.
The following day, they took down West Aurora once again by the score of 15-3, as Yearsley finished the day 2-for-3 with a double, RBI, two runs scored and a walk.
The Foxes finished off the three-game sweep of West Aurora with a 22-10 win on Thursday, as Yearsley powered the offense going 3-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs, four runs scored and a walk.
His final game was in a 10-9 loss against No. 23 at the time Glenbrook North, as he still went 3-for-5 with a home run, double, five RBIs and a run scored to lead the offense.
In addition to tearing the cover off the ball, the southpaw also hopped on the mound and fired 3.1 shutout innings with just two hits allowed, no walks and four strikeouts.
On the year, Yearsley is now hitting .500 with a .548 OBP, 1.604 OPS, seven home runs, two triples, five doubles, 31 RBIs and 18 runs scored. Currently ranked No. 98 in the state, the left-handed hitter has an efficient swing that stays on-plane, pairing with quick/strong hands that allow him to drive the ball to all fields. He will be a must-follow name throughout the rest of the spring.
We're thankful for the POTW submissions we received from the coaches across the state. The players who garnered POTW consideration will earn a place within tomorrow's Diamond Notes story, so be on the lookout for that.
