The Prep Baseball Report Unsigned Senior Showcase on Oct. 16 at The Max featured more than 110 prospects from across the state. Already we highlighted the top 30 overall prospects at the event.

Now we take a closer look at the position players. Below are all the primary position players at the event:

Top Position Players

1. Ray Hunnicutt, OF, Burlington Central HS
No doubt Hunnicutt is one of the premier athletes in the Class of 2012.  The 5-foot-11, 180-pound outfielder certainly proved it, as he ran an event-best 6.59 60.  Defensively, Hunnicutt moves with fluidity and purpose as his athleticism continued to shine. His throws were accurate and topped at 79 mph. Offensively, Hunnicutt has quick hands and demonstrated impressive barrel whip through the zone. With some mechanical refining, Hunnicutt has the natural athleticism and swing looseness to hit for some power as well. 

2. Tanner Scott, C, Burlington Central HS
Scott is clearly one of the best unsigned hitters in the Class of 2012. The solidly built 5-foot-11, 200-pounder takes an aggressive approach at the plate, using an explosive lower half and quick, athletic hands to hammer the baseball with backspin carry. Despite his aggressive approach, he maintains his balance throughout his swing. Scott continued to impress behind the plate, where he demonstrated concise footwork as he delivered accurate pop times all under 2.1, with a best blow of 2.02. From the crouch he was clocked 77 mph.  Offensively, he sets up balanced and has an explosive lower half while maintaining balance throughout his entire swing with fast bat speed. Scott also ran a 7.26 60.

3. Mark DeYoung, RHP/3B, Plainfield Central HS
DeYoung impressed in all facets of the game, proving that the athletically built 6-foot-2, 185-pounder can be a legitimate two-way guy at the next level. With that said, DeYoung certainly will have a future on the mound. The right-hander operates from a high ¾ slot with an easy, loose arm action. He demonstrated rhythm and fluidity throughout his mechanics and, with his arm quickness, he should continue to build on his 84-85 mph fastball.  He also showcased a firm change-up at 79 mph that has sinking action down in the zone.  As a position player, DeYoung impressed with his athletic left-handed swing. He demonstrated impressive barrel whip through the zone. Defensively, DeYoung has athletic feet and used his long legs well at third base.  He also showed solid arm strength (81 mph) across the infield.

4. Jeremias Delgado, C, Evanston HS
Delgado’s arm strength behind the plate was perhaps the most impressive tool at the entire Unsigned Senior event. Although Delgado is not big in stature, the 5-foot-9, 155-pounder features a big time arm, as he was clocked at 82 mph from the crouch.  His arm strength, coupled with his quick feet, equated to consistent 1.9 pop times with a best time of 1.86.  Moreover, Delgado also impressed by running a 6.94 60 and showed extremely quick hands and a strong arm in the middle infield.  Offensively, Delgado hits with an open setup and demonstrated quick hands at the plate.

5. Chris Maranto, SS, Mundelein HS
Maranto is an athletic 5-foot-10, 165-pound shortstop who displayed soft hands and quick footwork at shortsop. Maranto showcased an extremely quick transfer; he moved with fluid purpose and took concise routes to the ball. Maranto’s athleticism shined in the 60, as he ran a 6.85.  Offensively, Maranto has a narrow setup at the plate. The quick-twitch athlete demonstrated bat speed and swing looseness as he barreled balls to all fields.

5. Kevin Grudzinski, MIF, Hoffman Estates HS
Grudzinski has a solidly built 5-foot-11, 175-pound frame. The middle infielder showed all the necessary tools for success. He ran 6.95 60 time and was clocked at 85 mph across the diamond.  Offensively, Grudzinski has a fundamental approach to his swing, as he used his strong lower half and a short, compact swing to barrel balls with consistent authority. Defensively, he showcased excellent feel for his position, using concise footwork and fluid lateral movements to sho with a short stride that features balance and fast bat speed.  Defensively, Grudzinski displayed good hands and accurate throws across the diamond posting a velocity of 85 mph.

6. Nick McIntee, C, Randolph HS (MN)
Offensively, McIntee took the most impressive round of BP at the event. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound catcher demonstrated a balanced setup, smooth load, a short stride, and fast bat speed through the zone. McIntee has an aggressive, repeatable swing; he gets excellent extension after contact and the ball really jumps off his bat with backspin carry. Defensively, McIntee showcased solid footwork and soft hands during bullpens. His throws were on the bag with pop times ranging between 2.1-2.27.

7.Tanner Giesel, SS, Neuqua Valley HS
Giesel is a 6-foot-2, 184-pound shortstop who demonstrated natural infield instincts.  He showcased quick hands, athletic lateral movements and fluid rhythm. Giesel showed solid arm strength (81 mph) across the infield, in addition to running a 7.2 60.  Offensively, Giesel has a balanced setup and a level bat path.  He is able to generate bat speed and gets good extension after contact.

8. Mike Trefil, OF, Lyons Township HS
At 6-foot-3, 185 pounds, Trefil is an athletically built outfielder who showed well in all facets. Trefil impressed in the outfield, as he moves with aggressive, athletic movements and delivered accurate throws, topping at 86 mph.  Trefil, who ran a 7.1 60, also impressed with his offensive potential. He has an aggressive approach as he showcased solid bat speed and ability to hit the ball with authority.

9.Sam Santa Maria, INF/OF, Benet Academy HS
Santa Maria is a solidly built 5-foot-11, 185-pound multi-positional talent who showed natural instincts in the field.  From the outfield, Santa Maria had solid carry on his throws (83 mph). He also showed well at third base, showcasing fluid footwork, in addition to accurate throws across the infield.  Offensively, he has a balanced setup, a short stride and takes an economical path to the ball, which resulted well-struck balls to all fields. Santa Maria showed a repeatable, easy swing with the ability to drive the ball with some power.

10. Luke Wians, OF, Hampshire HS
Wians is a 6-foot-0, 160-pound outfielder who proved to be a solid all-around athlete. Not only did he run a 7.02 60, his athleticism translated in the outfield, as he moved with fluidity. Additionally, Wians showcased some arm strength with carry (86 mph). Offensively, the left-handed hitting Wians exhibited quick hands and some barrel whip through the zone.

11. Joel Rotkvich, INF, St. Laurence HS
Rotkvich is a 6-foot-2, 156-pound infielder who demonstrated soft hands, fluid footwork and was clocked at 82 mph across the field.  Offensively, Rotkvich has a balanced setup with a smooth load. He uses an active lower half, short stride, and short path to the ball help generate bat speed. With continued physical development, Rotkvich showed to be a very projectable prospect.

12. Dylan Rajkovich, OF, Sandburg HS
Rajkovich is a 5-foot-10, 185-pound outfielder who generates impressive bat speed. Rajkovich certainly doesn’t get cheated at the plate; he has an aggressive approach and swings with authority. The ball jumps off his bat with backspin carry.

13. John McLaughlin, C, Crete Monee HS
McLaughlin is a strong-bodied 5-foot-11, 190-pound catcher who features a solid frame and quick feet. McLaughlin’s pop times registered consistently under 2.1, with a top time of 1.92. McLaughlin displayed a strong, accurate arm from behind the dish.  Offensively, McLaughlin has an open stance and an aggressive approach. With his fast bat speed and strong lower half, McLaughlin showed some pull-side power potential.

14. Matt Brancato, 3B, Schaumburg HS
Brancato is a 6-foot-1, 200-pound third baseman with an athletic build who has an accurate arm that he delivered at 78 mph across the infield. Offensively, Brancato has a balanced setup and a swing that features a smooth load and short stride to the ball.  His strong lower half creates good balance throughout his swing, enabling him to generate bat speed and power potential. Additionally, he ran a 7.37 60.

15. Keith Askins, OF, Meridian HS
Askins is a 6-foot, 165-pound multi-positional talent who moves well at all positions.  With an athletic build and solid arm, he was clocked at 79 mph from the infield and 81 from the outfield. Additionally, Askins showed well with quick footwork while being clocked at 7.2 in the 60.

Kyle Anderson, OF/1B, Bolingbrook HS
Anderson is a 6-foot, 160-pound first baseman and outfielder who features an athletic, lanky body type.  At the plate, Anderson has a balanced setup; he features a smooth load and a good lower half which helps him generate some bat speed.

Francis Barnes Jr., 1B/RHP, Providence Catholic HS
Barnes is a 6-foot-2, 195-pound two-way player who has a strong, projectable frame.  On the mound, he has an over the top arm slot with a fastball that sat in the mid 70s, topping at 79 mph.  Offensively, Barnes has an open setup and creates a level swing through the zone.

Anthony Beale, MIF, Walter Lutheran HS
Beale is a 5-foot-9, 145-pound middle infielder who threw 71 mph from across the infield.  Offensively, he features a balanced setup at the plate with a smooth load and solid balance.  Beale ran a 7.48 60.

Tim Biron, 2B, Sussex Hamilton HS
A 5-foot-10, 180-pound second baseman, Biron showed a good approach to his swing.  He displayed a balanced setup at the plate.  His short stride and balance throughout his swing enabled him to make solid contact as he consistently hit the ball hard.

Doren Blake, 1B/C, Glenbard South HS
Blake is a 5-foot-10, 180-pound catcher who displayed soft hands during bullpens. He was clocked at 75 mph from behind the plate, and delivered consistent pop times that ranged from 2.2 to 2.32.  Offensively, he showed glimpses of power as he consistently squared up the baseball.

Charlie Cerniglia, LHP/OF, Belvidere North HS
Cerniglia is a 5-foot-9, 165-pound two-way player.  He operates on the mound with an over the top arm slot, his fastball sat in the upper 60s and his curveball was clocked at 57 mph.  In the outfield, Cerniglia was clocked at 72 mph and took fundamental routes to the baseball. 

Nico Chaidez, INF, Lake Park HS
Chaidez is a long-legged 5-foot-11, 170-pound infielder who displayed a sound lower half and bat path at the plate.  Additionally, he posted a 7.54 60 time and was clocked at 74 mph from across the infield.

Ryan Clavenna, 2B, Lincoln-Way West HS
Clavenna is a 5-foot-10, 160-pound middle infielder who displayed quick instincts.  He showed soft hands, a quick exchange, and took good routes to the ball.  Offensively, Clavenna has a balanced setup at the plate; he features a short compact swing with fluid rhythm as he consistently made solid contact.

Taylor Coltrin, 1B, Richwoods HS
Coltrin is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound first baseman who showed fundamental footwork around the bag.  He was clocked throwing the ball diamond at 69 mph.  Offensively, Coltrin is a switch-hitter.

Brian Cvitkovich, RHP/OF, Hoffman Estates HS
Cvitkovich has an athletically built frame in which he utilizes as a two way player.  On the mound, he has an over the top arm angle with a fastball in the upper 70s.  Defensively, Cvitkovich displayed accurate throws from the outfield and posted velocities of 78-80 mph.  At the plate, Cvitkovich has a balanced setup.  He has a smooth load and short stride to the ball as he maintained good balance throughout his swing.

Anthony D’Angelo, OF, Stevenson HS
D’Angelo is a 6-foot-2, 195-pound outfielder with a solid, athletic build.  A left-handed hitter, D’Angelo impressed with his power potential at the plate. He takes a short path to the baseball, and he flashed some pull-side power. The ball comes off his bat with some backspin carry. Defensively, he was clocked at 75-77 mph from the outfield, and he ran a 7.32 60.

Zachary Delli, 3B/RHP, Oswego East HS
A 6-foot, 175-pound two-way player, Delli features an athletic build with good feet defensively while being clocked at 72 mph from across the diamond.  On the mound, Delli has three pitches with a fastball sitting in the high 70s, a curveball, and knuckleball.  Offensively, Delli has a balanced setup with a smooth load with a line-drive swing.

Morgan Depew, MIF, Normal Community HS
Depew is a 5-foot-9, 160-pound middle infielder who displayed solid hands and was clocked at 73 mph from the shortstop position.  Depew has a balanced setup and a short path, which enabled him to make solid contact with the baseball.

Nick Driscoll, 2B, West Chicago HS
Driscoll is a 5-foot-11, 185-pound second baseman who threw 69 mph from across the diamond, and ran a 7.59 60 time.

Bryan Engleson, LHP/OF, Rockford Boylan HS
Engleson is a 5-foot-10, 170-pound two-way player who well both as an outfielder and as a left-handed pitcher. On the mound, he showed a high ¾ arm slot.  His fastball topped out at 80 mph and displayed two off-speed pitches: an 11/5 breaking ball at 68 mph and a changeup that sat around 72 mph.  Defensively, Engleson features an accurate arm in the outfield and was clocked at 78 mph from the position.  Offensively, the left-handed hitting Engleson has a short stride and is able to square up balls with consistency. 

Bryan Espiritu, LHP/OF, Culver Military Academy
Espiritu is a 5-foot-10, 180-pound two-way player.  He features a ¾ arm slot and a fastball that has arm side run.  In the field Espiritu was clocked at 77 mph from the outfield.  Additionally, he ran a 7.45 60 time.    

Erik Fetchko, C, Plainfield East HS
Fetchko is a 6-foot, 180-pound catcher with pop times that ranged from 2.11-2.26.  Fetchko showed solid hands and was clocked at 70-73 mph from the crouch.  Offensively, Fetchko showed off his athleticism by running a 7.35 60 time.

Stephen Galanopoulos, C, Stevenson HS
Galanopoulos is a strong-bodied 5-foot-10, 175-pound catcher who showed athletic feet and excellent hands while receiving bullpens. His pop times ranged between 2.26 -2.34 and he was clocked at 70 mph from behind the plate.  Offensively, Galanopoulos is a line-drive hitter with an athletic set up and a smooth load.  Additionally, he displayed his athleticism by posting a 7.1 60 time. He also showed solidly at first base.

Andrew Garcia, MIF, Whitney Young HS
Garcia is a 5-foot-10, 165-pound middle infielder who exhibited good balance throughout his swing. Garcia, who ran a 7.77 60, was was clocked at 73 mph across the diamond.

Tim Getty, C, Nazareth HS
Getty is a 6-foot, 180-pound catcher with a solid frame.  From the crouch, he was clocked at 73 mph and had pop times that ranged between 2.19-2.38.  Offensively, Getty has a balanced setup with a smooth load and short stride to the ball, which created an easy swing.

Justin Gitelis, 1B, Barrington HS
Gitelis is a 6-foot-2, 220-pound first baseman who flashed some power potential.  Defensively, he was clocked at throwing 64 mph across the diamond.

Hunter Grady, INF/OF, Belvidere HS
Grady is a 6-foot, 170-pound multi-positional player who showcased an accurate arm with speeds of 76 mph from the outfield and 74 mph from across the diamond.  Additionally, he possesses quick feet and has solid actions in the outfield.  Offensively, Grady has an athletic setup, smooth load, and gets good extension after contact, which resulted in solid contact.

Jordan Grubb, OF, Schaumburg HS
Grubb is a 5-foot- 8, 155-pound outfielder who displayed an accurate arm that was clocked at 77 mph. Additionally, he moved fluidly to the ball and further showed his athleticism by running 7.17 60 time.  Offensively, Grubb features a balanced setup at the plate, utilizing a smooth load, and short stride to square the ball up.

Nathan Hawkins, OF, Waukesha North HS (WI)
Hawkins is a 5-foot-6, 156-pound outfielder who showed a balanced, line drive swing from the left side. Hawkins ran a 7.88 60 and delivered accurate throws from the outfield, which were clocked at 70 mph.

John Hayes, OF/LHP, Lincoln-Way West HS
Hayes is a lanky 6-foot-2, 170-pound two-way player.  He features a high ¾ arm slot with a fastball that sits in the mid 70s.  Offensively, Hayes is a left-handed hitter who showed some whip through the zone. Hayes ran a 7.24 60.

Kerry Hickerson, 1B, Conant HS
Hickerson is a strong-bodied 6-foot-1, 220-pound first baseman who showcased a balanced setup at the plate.  Hickerson has a short stride and path to the ball, which resulted in a balanced swing throughout. Furthermore, he utilized his size and strength to generate bat speed and flashed pull-side power potential.

Jake Hickey, C, Lincoln Way East HS
A 6-foot-1, 190-pound athletically built catcher, Hickey exhibited a strong, quick arm with velocities that ranged from 72-76 mph from the crouch.  Hickey showcased athletic feet behind the plate, as he delivered a top pop time of 2.13.  He continued to showcase his athleticism by running a 7.03 60.  At the plate, he demonstrated bat speed and barrel whip through the zone.

Seamus Hill, 1B, New Trier HS
Seamus is a 6-foot, 215-pound first baseman who generated some bat speed through the zone and some power potential. Hill, who ran a 7.56 60, was clocked at 65 mph across the diamond. 

Nicholas Johnson, OF, Fenwick HS
Johnson is a 5-foot-11, 195-pound outfielder who has a physical, athletic frame with a strong lower half. Johnson displayed an accurate arm with velocity in the range of 73-75 mph.  Offensively, Johnson showcased an aggressive lower half with an athletic setup while demonstrating some pop at the plate.

Shane Joyce, OF/RHP, Prospect HS
At 6-foot, 165 pounds, Joyce has an athletic build who showed solidly both as a position player and as a pitcher. On the mound, Joyce has an over-the-top arm slot with a fastball that topped out at 79 mph.  From the outfield, Joyce was clocked at 80 mph and displayed consistent accuracy.  Offensively, Joyce has a fundamental approach at the plate, one that featured a slightly open setup, a short stride and some bat quickness.

Ben Kirchler, MIF, Homewood-Flossmoor HS
The 5-foot-9, 150-pound Kirchler demonstrated soft hands and good fluid footwork in the field. He plays through the ball well while exhibiting an accurate arm across the infield (77 mph). Kirchler further showed his athleticism by running a 7.03 60.  Offensively, Kirchler has a balanced setup at the plate with a level, line drive-producing swing.

Michael Marcheschi, MIF, Wheaton-Warrenville South HS
A 5-foot-10, 170-pound middle infielder, Marcheschi ran a 7.31 60 and was clocked at 72 mph from across the diamond.  Offensively, Marcheschi features a slightly open setup at the plate and showed to make consistent hard contact.

Tyler McAdams, C, Lockport HS
McAdams is a 5-foot-10, 170-pound catcher who delivered pop times of 2.24-2.35 with accuracy. Furthermore, McAdams showed well during bullpens, exhibiting soft hands and athletic feet.   Offensively, McAdams features a slightly open setup and ran a 7.82 60.

Kenny McCracken, OF, Aurora Christian HS
A solidly 5-foot-10, 190-pound left-handed hitting outfielder who demonstrated some pop at the plate. He used a balanced setup and his strong, aggressive lower half to drive the ball with some backspin carry. Defensively, McCracken had carry on his throws, coming in at 81 mph.

Justin Missner, C, Whitney Young HS
Standing at 5-foot-11, 190-pounds, Missner handled himself well behind the dish, as he showed solid footwork while delivering top pop times of 2.11, 2.12, and 2.18.  From the crouch he was clocked at 73-74 mph.  Offensively, Missner has a slightly open stance and demonstrated an all-around fundamental approach.

Zack Newhuis, SS, Crete Monee HS
Newhuis is a 6-foot, 145-pound infielder who was clocked at 73 mph from his position and ran an 8.18 60. 

Dan Ohde, OF, Brother Rice HS
Ohde is an athletically built 6-foot, 180-pound outfielder who posted a 7.04 60 time.  He exhibited accurate throws from his position and was clocked at 75-78 mph.  Offensively, he features a balanced setup at the plate and displayed the ability to barrel up some balls.

Daniel Oversen, OF, Highland Park HS
Oversen is a 5-foot-7, 150-pound left-handed hitting outfielder who ran a 7.3 60. Defensively, he displayed quick feet and took aggressive routes to the baseball. He showed consistency in his throws, topping at 74 mph. At the plate, Oversen has a fundamentally solid swing, showing a quick and compact path to the baseball.  

Matthew Ramirez, OF, De La Salle HS
Ramirez is a 5-foot-9, 165-pound outfielder who was clocked at 74 mph from his position.  Offensively, he has a balanced setup at the plate and ran a 7.92 60 time.

Andrew Ricker, MIF, Lincoln-Way North HS
Ricker is a 5-foot-8, 150-pound middle infielder who ran a 7.39 60.  Offensively, he has a balanced setup and demonstrated good rhythm and a level line-drive swing.  Defensively, Ricker moved well laterally and was clocked at 72 mph across the infield.

Tanner Schofield, C, East Peoria HS
Schofield is a solidly built 6-foot, 215-pound catcher who delivered a top pop time of 2.13 and was clocked at 73 mph from the crouch. Offensively, Schofield has a slightly opened setup and showed some pullside pop.

Jordan Schwartz, MIF, Highland Park HS
Schwartz is a 6-foot, 160-pound switch-hitting middle infielder who displayed good hands and athleticism at his position. Schwartz, who ran a 7.02 60, demonstrated soft hands, concise footwork and a quick transfer at shortstop. Offensively, Schwartz has a balanced setup from both sides of the plate, and demonstrated some swing looseness and barrel whip through the zone.  

James Solberg, OF, University HS
Standing at 5-foot-10, 173-pounds, Solberg showed natural instincts in the outfield and moved well laterally. His throws were accurate and topped at 78 mph. Solberg continued to show his athleticism by posting a 7.01 60 time. 

Brad Taylor, C/3B, Lyons Township HS
Taylor is a 6-foot-1, 180-pound catcher that had pop times in the range of 2.1-2.26, and was clocked at 72 mph from the crouch.  Offensively, Taylor has a slightly open setup, one that features a short stride, solid lower half, and good balance throughout his swing. Taylor consistently squared the baseball with some authority.

Jacob Tegeler, 1B/C, Morrison HS
Tegeler is a 6-foot, 180-pound multi-positional player who impressed with his athleticism by running a 7.08 60. Behind the plate, he delivered pop times between 2.18-2.34.  Offensively, he showcased some swing looseness at the plate while squaring the ball up.

Mike Trumbull, OF/1B, York HS
Trumbull is a 6-foot, 170-pound outfielder who showed well at the plate. Anchored by  a balanced, athletic setup, he showed good rhythm and fluidity throughout his swing as he barreled balls with gap-to-gap power. From the outfield, Trumbull was clocked at 77-78 mph.  

JJ Witherow, OF, Manteno HS
Witherow is a lean 6-foot-1, 175-pound outfielder who ran a 7.02 60 time.  His athleticism translated in the outfield, as he moved with fluid purpose, displaying an accurate arm in the 75-77 mph range.  Offensively, Witherow has a level swing path which he used to spray the ball to all fields.

Michael Wojtanowski, SS, Crete-Monee HS
Wojtanowski  is a 5-foot-7, 135-pound middle infielder who well in the infield, demonstrating soft hands, fluid footwork and quick transfer. He ran a 7.26 60 and was clocked at 73 mph from across the diamond.

Tyler Woolbright, 1B/RHP, Rockford Lutheran HS
Woolbright is a solidly built 6-foot-2, 200-pound two-way talent who showed well on the mound and as a position player. On the mound, Woolbright has a high ¾ arm angle with feel for three pitches.  He showcased his changeup that, when kept down in the zone, showed some armside sink. His fastball sat at 78-79 and consistently filled the bottom of the strike zone. Offensively, Woolbright has a balanced setup at the plate with a smooth load and short stride. He demonstrated some barrel whip through the zone, which resulted in well-struck balls to the power alleys.
