The Prep Baseball Report Class of 2013 Prospect Showcase on July 20 at Oakton Community College featured lots of talent from all over the state. Many players established themselves high-level prospects, certainly players to pay close attention to in the coming years.

The most impressive aspect of the event was the overall athleticism. In fact, 10 players ran sub-7 60s. Spencer Gaa, a middle infielder from Metamora HS, established himself as one of the premier athletes in the Class of 2013 after he ran a 6.63 60.

A look at the top players at the event:

1. Spencer Gaa, Metamora HS, INF
Gaa garnered top prospect honors at the Class of 2013 Showcase after he impressed in all facets of the game. However, it is his speed and athleticism that make him one of the premier prospects in the 2013 class. Gaa ran a 6.63 60 on his first attempt, and followed it up with a 6.69 – proving that he is an elite athlete in the Midwest. The 6-foot-1, 165-pounder also impressed in the field, showing quick feet and defensive actions, along with solid carry across the infield (81 mph). At the plate, Gaa hits with a slightly closed setup with little movement. His swing is extremely quick and compact, as he sprayed line drives to all fields. In all, Gaa is a top-level talent who should be one of the more heavily recruited infielders in the class.

2. Matt Miller, Aurora Central Catholic HS, SS/RHP
The 5-foot-10, 155-pound Miller is a legitimate two-way prospect who performed extremely well in all facets of the game. At shortstop, Miller was the top defensive middle infielder at the event, showing fluid and easy actions, to go along with soft hands and solid arm strength (80 mph). He demonstrated advanced footwork and played through the ball well. At the plate, Miller hits with an open setup, gets to a balanced position with good rhythm and showed polished overall hitting mechanics. He’s short and quick to the baseball, as he laced consistent line drives to all fields. Miller, who ran a 7.3 60, also impressed on the mound. He has a quick and easy arm action and showed the ability to command three pitches for strikes. He operates from a high ¾ slot with a fastball that sat in the 80-82 range.  His changeup displayed some late sink down in the zone and looks to be a strong out-pitch in the future.

3. Jackson Bubula, Chicago Latin HS, RHP
A physically imposing 6-foot-5, 260-pound right-hander, Bubula looks to be one of the more promising power arms in the Class of 2013. His arm works with little effort, with a fastball that sat at 84 mph, topping at 85. His curveball has the potential to be a plus pitch with continued development, as it had late, sharp action, in the 67-69 mph range. Bubula also flashed a 75 mph changeup that displayed some arm-side sink. With continued physical development, Bubula has the potential to be a high-level recruit in the Class of 2013.

4. Michael Fitzgerald, Metea Valley HS, 3B
With his athletic 6-foot-3, 195-pound frame, Fitzgerald is an extremely projectable prospect who displayed some polished all-around ability. Defensively, Fitzgerald showed well at third base, displaying soft hands, concise lateral movements and a solid arm across the infield (80 mph). Fitzgerald, who ran a 7.25 60, also showed pull-side power potential at the plate.

5. Connor Conzelman, Jacobs HS, OF
Conzelman is a physical and athletic 6-foot-1, 195-pound outfielder who showed to be one of the best hitters at the Prep Baseball Report Class of 2013 Showcase. At the plate, he used his strong lower half, fast hands, and compact path to the ball to drive the ball with excellent backspin carry and loft. The ball really jumped off his bat. Conzelman, who ran a 7.38 60, moved well in the outfield and delivered accurate throws.

6. Andrew Reisinger, RHP/1B, McHenry West HS
Reisinger is an athletically built 6-foot-3, 195-pound two-way player who especially impressed on the mound. The right-hander operates from a high-3/4 arm slot, with a fastball that sat at 82-83 mph. With his size, arm quickness, and looseness on the backside, Reisinger should see his velocity continue to climb in the coming years. Reisinger also flashed a 67-68 mph curveball and a 70-72 mph changeup. At first base, he demonstrated soft hands and clean footwork around the bag. Offensively, he ran a 7.17 60 and showed some raw power potential.

7. Grant Anderson, Deer Creek-Mackinaw HS, OF
Anderson is an athletically built 6-foot-1, 175-pound outfielder who opened eyes with his impressive 6.72 60 time. Anderson also showed off some arm strength from outfield (80 mph) with solid carry on the bag. At the plate, he displayed bat speed and raw power potential.

8. Nolan Bullock, Rich Central HS, OF
The 5-foot-8, 160-pound Bullock is an athletic outfielder who showed well in all facets of the game. Bullock’s athleticism came through in the 60, running a 6.83, and also in the outfield – as he moved with purpose to the baseball. Bullock demonstrated solid arm strength (81 mph) with accurate carry from the outfield. Offensively, Bullock has an aggressive approach. He showcased extremely quick hands at the plate with a short, level path. He showed above-average power for his size, and the ability to drive the baseball to the power alleys.

9. Peter Doughty, York HS, OF
The 6-foot-1, 160-pound Doughty graded out as the best overall hitter at the Prep Baseball Report Class of 2013 Showcase. Doughty impressed with his smooth left-handed swing. He showed an advanced plate approach, demonstrating easy, relaxed hands, excellent bat speed through the zone and overall polished hitting mechanics. He gets excellent extension after contact, and the ball jumps off his bat with carry and backspin loft. Doughty, who ran a 7.14 60, also showed athletic actions in the outfield.

10. Matt Dennis, SS, Rolling Meadows HS
The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Dennis is a projectable, athletic middle infielder who ran a 6.95 60. Defensively, he plays through the ball well, in addition to showing soft hands and an accurate arm across the infield. At the plate, Dennis continued to impress with his balanced approach. He showed excellent hand acceleration through the zone, which produced consistent hard line drives. He also demonstrated repeatable rhythm throughout his swing.

11. Evan Regez, C, Herscher HS
Regez is a projectable 6-foot-1, 140-pound left-handed hitting catcher. Regez has a long, wiry frame, one that should fill out well in the coming years. At the plate, Regez demonstrated a quiet and mechanically sound left-handed swing. He has a relaxed and balanced approach. Every swing Regez barreled line drives to all fields, exhibiting advanced bat control. Defensively, Regez put every throw on the bag with consistent pop times ranging between 2.13-2.18. Regez also showed well in the bullpen, demonstrating quick feet and soft hands. As Regez develops physically, look for him to become one of the more coveted catching prospects in the state.

12. Adam McGinnis, C, Normal West HS
McGinnis is a solidly built 5-foot-11, 180-pound catcher who was the best overall receiver at the Class of 2013 Prospect Showcase. During bullpens, McGinnis showed advanced glovework and received with soft hands and a firm wrist. He also displayed solid arm strength (75 mph from the crouch), with consistent 2.19-2.20 pop times. With a few mechanical adjustments, McGinnis has the skill to be a consistent 1.9-2.0 guy. Offensively, he has an aggressive approach and showed pull-side power potential. He has a strong lower half, which he used to drive the ball to the left side of the field.

13. Andrew Asken, RHP/OF, Naperville Central HS
At 6-foot-6, 190 pounds, Asken is an extremely projectable, athletic two-way talent. Offensively, Asken showed impressive power to all fields, even taking one out to right-center with a BBCOR bat. Asken has a slightly open approach, and has quick hands with an upper-cut swing. Asken, who has extremely long arms and legs, ran a 7.37 60 and showed athletic actions in the outfield.

14. Anthony Romano, OF/RHP, Yorkville HS
The 5-foot-11, 160-pound Romano proved to be one of the best overall hitters at the Prep Baseball Report Class of 2013 Showcase. Romano, who ran a 6.91 60, has an advanced approach and showcased extremely fast hands and barrel whip through the zone. He maintains balance and rhythm throughout his swing, and gets excellent extension through contact. The ball jumps off his bat with backspin carry. Defensively, Romano is athletic to the ball and was accurate with his throws. On the mound, the right-hander has a short backside arm action and operates from a high-3/4 slot with a fastball that topped at 75 mph.

15. Jon Escobar, Fremd HS, OF
The 6-foot, 175-pound showed well in all facets of the game. Defensively, he takes precise, fluid routes to the baseball, and showed good carry on his throws (83 mph). Escobar, who ran a 7.35 60, also impressed at the plate. He has an aggressive approach, and demonstrated fast hands through the zone. The ball jumped off his bat with some backspin carry and loft.

16. Adam Mattson, McHenry HS, OF
The 5-foot-9, 145-pound Mattson was one of the event’s best athletes, as he ran a 6.75 60. His athleticism also showed in the outfield; he moved fluidly and quickly to the ball and had solid carry on his throws (81 mph). Offensively, Mattson hits from a crouched setup. He showed quick hands and maintained solid balance throughout. With some mechanical fine-tuning, Mattson showed the quick-twitch athleticism to be a solid hitter.

17. Jake Smith, RHP/INF, Nettleton HS (AR)
Smith is a projectable 6-foot-2, 180-pound two-way player. With his athletic frame, Smith showed promise on the mound, as his arm works with ease and quickness. Coming from a high-3/4 slot, Smith’s fastball sat at 78 mph with some sinking action. His 69-70 mph slider demonstrated late, sharp bite, and could develop into a legitimate out pitch once he commands it. Smith also showed feel for his changeup. At the plate, Smith exhibited good rhythm throughout his swing and showed power potential. 

18. Kyle Kutzler, RHP/1B, Kenosha Tremper HS (WI)
Kutzler is a physical 6-foot-4, 220-pound two-way talent who showed considerable upside on the mound. Operating from an over-the-top arm slot, the right-hander topped out at 83 mph, sitting at 82, with his fastball. Offensively, Kutzler is a left-handed hitter who demonstrated raw pull-side power with good barrel whip through the zone. Defensively, Kutzler exhibited solid footwork and soft hands at first base.

19. Nicholas Loggarakis, SS/RHP, Glenbrook South HS
With a long, lean athletic frame, Loggarakis is a projectable two-way talent who impressed in all facets of the game. Defensively, the 5-foot-11, 145-pounder showcased quick defensive actions, athletic feet and a fast transfer. He fields the ball with rhythm and had solid carry on his throws. Loggarakis, who ran a 7.19 60, hits from an open, crouched position, and demonstrated some bat speed and barrel whip. On the mound, the right-hander works from a high-3/4 slot with a fastball that topped at 80 mph, sitting at 78-79. Loggarakis also flashed a 68-69 sweeping curveball and a changeup. With his long legs and arms, Loggarakis should see his velocity climb as he physically develops.

20. Matt Vogt, C, Libertyville HS
Vogt is an athletic 6-foot-1, 165-pound left-handed hitting catcher. Vogt impressed with his fluid swing and athleticism (7.09 60). Offensively, Vogt has a slightly open stance, and showed barrel whip through the zone. He remains balanced and in rhythm throughout his swing. Defensively, he demonstrated soft hands during bullpens. His top pop time registered at 2.18.

21. Marty Napleton, C, St. Rita HS
At 6-foot-1, 190-pounds, Napleton is a physically strong catcher who opened eyes with his right-handed power potential. Napleton has a strong lower half, which he uses well to power through the baseball. He stays strong through the ball, and creates excellent backspin carry. Defensively, Napleton registered a top pop time of 2.10 and demonstrated soft hands during bullpens.

22. Andrew Frankenreider, RHP, Dunlap HS
The 6-foot, 165-pound right-hander showed a quick arm with good hand acceleration from a ¾ slot. He has a long backside arm action, and generated some late arm-side run with his fastball and change. His fastball topped at 82 mph, sitting at 81. Frankenreider also threw a 65-68 mph slurve, in addition to a 72-74 mph changeup.

23. Welby Malczewski, LHP, Prospect HS
At 6-foot-5, 220-pounds, Malczewski possesses a lot of upside. The big left-hander operates from a ¾ arm slot with a fastball that sat at 77-78 mph. Malczewski, who throws across his body, also showed a 66-68 mph sweeping curveball and threw a developing 68-69 mph changeup. With his size and some mechanical adjustments, Malczewski should see his velocity climb in the coming years.

24. Cole Hoeppel- Tranter, C/1B, McHenry HS
Hoeppel-Tranter is a physical 6-foot-1, 185-pound catcher who showed some power potential at the plate. He uses his strong lower half and balanced approach to drive the ball with some backspin carry and loft. Defensively, Tranter-Hoeppel also showed well during bullpens with his receiving ability. His pop times ranged between 2.13-2.28.

25. Greg Money, C, Fremd HS
Money is a solidly built 5-foot-11, 185-pound catcher who was one of the top defensive catchers at the Prep Baseball Report Class of 2013 Showcase. Money demonstrated polished footwork and received with soft hands and a firm wrist. Money was, in fact, money on all his throws, putting the ball glove-side on the bag. His pop times were a consistent 2.15-2.2. Offensively, Money has a balanced setup and showed rhythm and lower-half rotation. 

26. Alec Skender, SS, Metamora HS
Skender has a lanky, athletic 6-foot, 155-pound frame, one that should fill out nicely as he physically develops. At shortstop, he impressed with his athletic defensive actions. He moves well laterally, fields the ball in rhythm and has a quick transfer. Skender ran a 7.1 60 and was clocked at 75 mph across the infield. Offensively, he’s a line drive hitter who exhibited solid bat speed through the zone.

27. Brandon Gibis, RHP/MIF, Wauconda HS
The 5-foot-9, 165-pound Gibis showed well in all facets of the game. Defensively, he demonstrated fluid middle infield actions; he plays through the ball well and had some carry across the infield (79 mph). Gibis, who ran a 7.07 60, exhibited a fundamental swing at the plate, as he remained balanced throughout while spraying line drives. On the mound, the right-hander showcased a quick arm and good extension through his target line. Coming from an over-the-top slot, Gibis topped at 82 mph with his fastball, sitting 79-81 with some arm-side action. His changeup looks to be his best pitch, which demonstrated some sink down in the zone.

28. Tanner Kiser, OF, Lake Zurich HS
Kiser is an athletic 6-foot, 185-pound left-handed hitting outfielder who ran a 6.96 60. Kiser showed athletic actions in the outfield, taking aggressive routes to the baseball; he also demonstrated some carry on his throws (80 mph). Offensively, he exhibited sound hitting mechanics, using a slightly closed setup and a short stride to barrel line drives. He demonstrated good balance and rhythm throughout his swing and showed gap-to-gap power.

29. Nick Rybarczyk, C, Addison Trail HS
The 6-foot-1, 175-pound Rybarczyk certainly doesn’t get cheated at the plate. He has an aggressive plate approach and showed good acceleration through the zone. Hitting with an open setup, he demonstrated an aggressive lower half, which he used to drive the ball with some loft and power. Defensively, Rybarczyk showcased athletic feet and registered a top pop time of 2.07.

30. Frank Perrone, OF, Maine South HS
Perrone is a 5-foot-8, 165-pound outfielder who showed solidly in all facets. Defensively, Perrone showcased above-average arm strength (83 mph) with good carry on his throws. Offensively, Perrone hits from an open, crouched position and showed the ability to drive the baseball to all fields. Perrone also ran a 7.33 60.

Best of the Rest

Colin Ash, OF/RHP, Naperville North HS
Ash is a 5-foot-9, 148-pound two-way player who showed solidly in all facets. On the mound, Ash’s arm works with little effort, coming from a high-3/4 slot. He showed feel for three pitches, including a fastball that topped at 79 mph. His 71-72 mph changeup showed some promise, as it had some late arm-side action. As a position player, Ash ran a 7.13 60 and was clocked at 81 mph from the outfield. At the plate, Ash is a line-drive hitter, as he is quick and compact to the baseball. There is little movement in Ash’s swing; he has a short stride and no load, which resulted in line drives.

Kyle Balling, C/1B, Grayslake Central HS
Balling is a 5-foot-11, 175-pound left-handed hitting catcher. Balling demonstrated solid receiving skills, as he remained balanced in his squat while sticking pitches with a firm wrist. Balling’s top pop time was a 2.35. Balling, who ran a 7.44 60, exhibited a balanced left-handed swing.

Nick Binder, INF, South Elgin HS
Binder is a 5-foot-10, 150-pound left-handed hitting infielder.  In the field, Binder was clocked at 76 from his position, and ran a 7.81 60.

Kyle Bock, C/INF, Evergreen Park HS
The 5-foot-10, 156-pound Bock registered pop times ranging between 2.15-2.25. At shortstop, he takes aggressive routs to the ball and fielded the ball out in front well. Bock ran a 7.35 60 and was clocked at 71 mph from the field.

Daytona Bryden, OF, Rockton Hononegah HS
Bryden is a 5-foot-11, 145-pound outfielder who showed good all-around athleticism. Bryden ran a 7.16 60 and moved extremely well in the outfield, taking concise routes to the baseball while exhibiting some carry on his throws (77 mph). Offensively, the right-handed hitter has an aggressive approach. He showed fast hands at the plate and an active lower half.

Jonathan Chudacoff, MIF, New Trier HS
The 5-foot-8, 150-pound middle infielder ran a 7.34 60 while showing a balanced, level swing at the plate. Offensively, Chudacoff showcased a fundamentally sound swing, as he remained balanced throughout while spraying line drives.

Max Cohen, LHP/OF, Glenbrook South HS
On the mound, the 5-foot-8, 175-pound left-hander showed the ability to command three pitches. His fastball sat at 77 mph with some arm-side action. His 68-69 mph curveball, which had slurve shape, was his best pitch, as he commanded it down in the zone. In the outfield, Cohen showed solid carry and accuracy with his throws (80 mph). Offensively, the left-handed hitter has a compact, balanced swing. Cohen ran a 7.5 60.

Michael Coladipietro, MIF, Lockport HS
The 5-foot-7, 135-pound middle infielder moved well laterally in the field, showing quick feet and exchange. Coladipietro, who ran a 7.25 60, showcased a balanced line drive approach with clean hitting mechanics. He showed good rhythm and a short path to the baseball.

Greg Davis, OF, Maine East HS
The 5-foot-8, 155-pound Davis ran a 7.75 60 and was clocked at 70 mph from the outfield.

Matt Delanty, INF, Lane Tech HS
The 5-foot-10, 160-pound Delanty displayed solid hands in the field while playing through the ball with some rhythm. Offensively, Delanty is a line drive hitter who showed a solid plate approach. Delanty ran a 7.4 60 and was clocked at 73 mph across the infield.

Grant Dunham, MIF, Fremd HS
Dunham is an athletically built middle infielder who ran a 7.10 60. Dunham moves well laterally and fielded the ball cleanly. Offensively, he hits from an open, crouched position and demonstrated fundamental mechanics.

Gabriel Dwyer, C, Niles North HS
Dwyer is an athletically built 6-foot-1, 170-pound catcher who impressed with his receiving abilities. Dwyer showed good balance in the squat, and framed pitches well. Furthermore, he demonstrated solid footwork behind the plate, and showed his athleticism by running a 7.31 60. His top pop time registered at 2.15.

Anthony Fortunato, OF, Palatine HS
Fortunato is a 5-foot-10, 155-pound outfielder who impressed with his fluid left-handed swing. Fortunato demonstrated excellent all-around hitting mechanics, taking a relaxed and balanced approach. He showed good barrel control through the zone. Fortunato also showed well in the outfield, as he displayed quick feet and took precise routes to the baseball. His throws had solid carry (79 mph) and were on target.

Devon Gehrke, LHP/OF, McHenry West HS
Gehrke is a 5-foot-11, 150-pound two-way player. On the mound, the left-hander topped at 81 mph, sitting at 79, with a fastball that had late arm-side action. Gehrke operates from a high-3/4 arm slot and showed hand acceleration through the target. In the outfield, he demonstrated solid footwork in the outfield and played through the ball well, in addition to solid carry on his throws (81 mph). At the plate, the left-handed hitter has a wide open stance and exhibited barrel whip through the zone.

Tyler Gudat, C, Dunlap HS
Gudat is a 5-foot-10, 170-pound catcher who showed some power potential at the plate. Gudat exhibited a balanced approach with little extra movement in his swing, taking a short stride and no load. He used his solid lower half to drive the ball with some loft and carry. Defensively, Gudat was consistently around with bag with pop times ranging between 2.15-2.18.

Mike Hainline, INF, Olympia HS
Hainline is an athletically built 6-foot, 185-pound infielder. At third base, his throws were delivered with accuracy, clocking in at 69 mph.

John Hotchkiss, OF, Marian Catholic HS
Hotchkiss is a 5-foot-9, 145-pound switch-hitting outfielder who impressed with his 6.91 60 time. Hotchkiss’s athleticism also translated in the outfield, as he moved fluidly to the baseball. Offensively, Hotchkiss hit from both sides of the plate.

Alexander Horwitz, 1B/LHP, Deerfield HS
The 5-foot-11, 195-pound Horwitz impressed with his mechanically sound right-handed swing at the plate. Horwitz has a balanced approach, as he displayed excellent rhythm and swing looseness through contact. He used an active lower half and extension through contact to drive the ball with some backspin carry. At first base, he demonstrated excellent footwork around the bag and soft hands. On the mound, the left-hander topped out at 76 with his fastball, and his 66-68 mph changeup displayed arm-side sink down in the zone. Horwitz also ran a 7.42 60.

Matthew Kaminski, OF/2B, Lemont HS
Kaminski is a 5-foot-9, 179-pound outfielder/second baseman who impressed with his pure left-handed swing. Kaminski was one of the top hitters at the event, as he displayed quick hands, a relaxed, balanced approach and excellent extension through contact. There’s not much wasted movement in his swing, and he used an aggressive lower half to drive the ball gap-to-gap. From the outfield, Kaminski was clocked at 72 mph and ran a 7.77 60.

Michael Kendrick, MIF, Brother Rice HS
The 5-foot-6, 150-pound Kendrick showed quick defensive actions, highlighted by a fast transfer. Kendrick demonstrated solid lateral range, and his athleticism also showed in the 60, as he ran a 7.07. At the plate, he has a compact swing and a balanced, line drive approach.

Matt Kollada, OF/INF, Deerfield HS
The 5-foot-9, 150-pound Kollada demonstrated sound hitting mechanics throughout his swing. He has a balanced setup and stays in rhythm through contact with little excess movement. Defensively, Kollada was clocked at 75 mph and he ran a 7.51 60.

Sam Koloms, RHP, Glenbrook South HS
Koloms is an athletically built 6-foot-2, 195-pound right-hander who possesses a projectable pitcher’s frame. Coming from a high-3/4 arm slot, Koloms’ fastball sat at 74-76 mph, topping at 78 mph. He also threw a 62-64 mph changeup and a 55-57 mph curveball.

Connor Kopach, MIF, Downers Grove North HS
Kopach is a 5-foot-9, 145-pound infielder who showed well in all facets, particularly in the infield, where he exhibited fluid and athletic defensive actions. Kopach plays through the ball ball, and demonstrated a quick release and solid carry across the infield. Offensively, Kopach hits from an open, athletic position, and showed polished swing mechanics throughout. He takes a short path to the baseball and exhibited good barrel control. Kopach also ran a 7.13 60.

Cal Laird, LHP, Fenwick HS
Laird is a 6-foot, 160-pound left-hander who showed feel for three pitches. Coming from a ¾ arm slot, Laird’s fastball registered at 74-75 mph, while his sweeping curveball sat at 67-69. Laird also showed a changeup that came in at 69-70 mph.

Kevin Malec, 3B, De La Salle HS
The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Malec demonstrated good glovework at third base. He showed concise lateral movements and solid hands. Offensively, right-handed hitter has a balanced setup as he hit the ball hard to the left side of the field.

David Matthews, OF, Clemente HS
Matthews is an athletically built 6-foot-1, 180-pound outfielder. The left-handed hitting Matthews has long legs and moves fluidly in the outfield. He ran a 7.4 60 and was clocked at 76 mph from his position.

Jack McLaughlin, RHP, Lane Tech HS
The 6-foot-2, 170-pound McLaughlin has an athletic, projectable frame, highlighted by his long legs and arms. McLaughlin’s fastball topped at 79 mph, sitting in the 77-78 range, while his curveball, which had 11/5 shape, registered between 67-69 mph. McLaughlin also showed some feel for a changeup.

David Meade, RHP, Antioch HS
The 6-foot-1, 160-pound right-hander comes from an over-the-top arm slot with a fastball that topped at 78 mph. He also threw a curveball and slider, both with similar shape, ranging between 70-73 mph.

Eric Meiller, OF, Vernon Hills HS
The 5-foot-8, 155-pound Meiller hits from a crouched position and showed solid balance and lower-half rotation in his swing. Meiller ran an 8.09 60.

Zach Moyer, OF/MIF, Pearl City HS
The 6-foot-1, 160-pound Moyer ran a 7.12 60 and demonstrated an easy left-handed swing at the plate. Defensively, he moves athletically to the ball and delivered accurate throws, coming in at 66 mph.

Nick Murphy, OF, Rochester HS

Nikolich is a physical 6-foot-1, 196-pound two-way player. At the plate, Nikolich showed occasional gap power behind his strong lower half and balanced setup. Nikolich, who ran a 7.77 60, was clocked at 72 from third base. On the mound, he comes from a high-3/4 arm slot with a fastball that topped at 75 mph. He also showed some feel for a curveball and 69-70 mph changeup.

Brendon O’Dea, OF, Oswego HS
O’Dea is a 5-foot-8, 130-pound left-handed hitting outfielder who showed solid athleticism by running a 7.03 60. In the outfield, O’Dea is quick to the ball and takes good routes. Offensively, O’Dea demonstrated a balanced and smooth left-handed swing. He exhibited good rhythm throughout, while taking a short, compact path to the baseball.

Joey Pizzolato, MIF, Lake Zurich HS
The 6-foot, 165-pound Pizzolato demonstrated soft hands and clean footwork at shortstop. Offensively, the right-handed hitter has a closed setup and showed solid bat control as he sprayed line drives. Pizzolato ran a 7.68 60.

Jalen Purchase, RHP, Rich Central HS
Purchase is an athletically built 6-foot, 185-pound right-hander who demonstrated solid rhythm and tempo throughout. Coming from an over-the-top arm slot, Purchase’s fastball sat at 75-77 mph. He also threw a developing 64-66 mph curveball and 66-68 mph changeup.

Nick Refka, INF, Palatine HS
The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Refka impressed with his defensive work at third base, where he demonstrated quick lateral movements, solid footwork and soft hands. Refka’s throws had life and carry across the infield, topping at 78 mph. Refka, who ran a 7.34 60, also showed a level swing at the plate.

Jared Rubin, OF, Deerfield HS
The 6-foot-1, 165-pound Rubin showed his athleticism by running a 6.95 60. From the outfield, he showed solid carry on his throws (80 mph), and played through the ball well.

Spencer Ryan, LHP/1B, Mundelein HS
Ryan is a 5-foot-11, 165-pound two-way player who showed soft hands and solid footwork at first base. On the mound, the left-hander topped out at 71 mph with his fastball.

Brian Sobieski, C, St. Charles East HS
Sobieski is a 6-foot, 195-pound catcher who has an aggressive approach at the plate. He showed some bat speed and had good lower-half rotation. He also demonstrated solid barrel control through the zone, which resulted in hard hit balls to the left side. Defensively, Sobieski’s top pop time was 2.32.

Eric Sons, OF, Maine South HS
Sons is a 5-foot-11, 155-pound left-handed hitting outfielder. Sons ran a 7.31 60 and was clocked at 77 mph from the outfield. Offensively, he hits from a crouched, open position.

Steve Waldrop, RHP, Bolingbrook HS
Waldrop is a 6-foot, 185-pound right-hander whose fastball topped at 81 mph, and sat at 79-80. Waldrop operates from a high-3/4 slot with a long backside arm action. His curveball, which had 11/5 shape, registered at 67-69 mph.

Jordan Wanner, LHP/OF, Morton HS
Wanner is a 5-foot-9, 145-pound left-handed pitcher and outfielder. On the mound, Wanner operates from a high-3/4 arm slot in which he commanded three pitches for strikes. His fastball topped at 77 mph, sitting in the 74-75 range. Offensively, Wanner displayed a quick and compact left-handed swing. He showed sound hitting mechanics and got good extension through contact. In the outfield, he was clocked at 79 mph.

Jordan Witbeck, INF, McHenry East HS
The 5-foot-10, 149-pound Witbeck hits from a slight crouched position, taking a short stride and level swing path. Defensively, he demonstrated fundamental footwork and solid hands. Witbeck, who ran a 7.60 60, was clocked at 72 mph from the field.
