Central Illinois Summer ID: Quick Hits

On July 16th, the Prep Baseball Illinois staff hosted the Central Illinois Summer ID at the Corn Crib in Normal, Ill. Over 70 players participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball Illinois staff.

We’ll continue rolling out our post-event content pieces from this week’s event with this ‘Quick Hits’ story. Continue reading below to learn more about a few name-to-know prospects from this year’s Central Illinois Summer ID.

QUICK HITS

+ OF Wilson Terrutty (Oswego East, 2025) is an uncommitted name to know. Standing in at 5-foot-10, 176-pounds, Terrutty ran well and swung a loud barrel at the event. He started his workout by running a 6.96 60, reaching a max run speed of 20.1 mph, which was good for fourth-fastest at the event. He then posted a max vertical of 31.2”, which was another high mark for the event. Offensively, the right-handed hitter showed strong hands with a flat path and line drive approach. He led the event in max exit velocity with his hardest hit ball clocking in at 97.2 mph. Terrutty also showed to be one of the quicker bats in attendance with an average bat speed of 74.1 mph, which was good for second-highest. Terrutty is a name coaches should become more familiar with as he enters his senior year.

+ Another bat to know from the event was OF Ashton Miner (Newman Central Catholic, 2027). Presenting a strong 5-foot-9, 176-pound frame, Miner was consistently on the barrel throughout batting practice with loose hands, a flat path, while creating backspin and using the entire field. Miner led the event in average exit velocity (91.2 mph), average batted ball distance (283 ft.), max batted ball distance (359 ft.), and hard hit percentage (77%). He also showed some additional athleticism with a max vertical jump of 31.4”. The right-handed hitter is a name to continue to monitor throughout the summer.

+ OF Kendall Morris (Stewardson-Strasburg, 2025) and INF Charles Cambridge (Paxton-Buckley-Loda, 2025; Kankakee CC) are two uncommitted seniors who swung the bat well.

Morris is a strong 5-foot-10, 179-pound right-handed hitter that swung with a simple, flat path, producing line drives throughout his round. He tallied a max exit velocity of 90.6 mph (avg. 85.8) to pair with a max batted ball distance of 330 feet.

Cambridge had some loud shots off the bat in his round. He posted a max exit velocity of 91.7 mph (avg. 87.9) and was one of the event leaders in sweet spot percentage at 75%.

+ OF Filippo Baratta (Lincoln-Way Central, 2025) is an uncommitted name to know from the event. Currently ranked No. 141 in the state, Baratta put together one of the more polished rounds of batting practice. The trim, athletic 5-foot-10, 156-pound right-handed hitter showed some barrel strength, reaching a max exit velocity of 92.3 mph with a max batted ball distance of 336 feet. He was also one of the fastest runners at the event, clocking in a 6.77 60 yard dash. His athleticism carried over in the defensive portion of the workout as well, where he showed quick feet, easy range, and body control while also throwing one of the event’s hardest bullets from the outfield at 85 mph.

+ INF Roan Orlanes (Naperville Central, 2025) swung the bat well from the right side. Orlanes showed an athletic, level bat path that allowed for line drive contact, while using the whole field throughout his round. He also showed to have one of the quicker bats on average for the event, posting an average bat speed of 71.1 mph. Orlanes also led the entire event in the 60, posting a time of 6.68 seconds, while reaching a max speed of 20.8 mph.

TWO-WAYS

+ C/RHP RJ Duncheon (East Peoria, 2026) had a strong all-around showing at the event. A physical 6-foot, 193-pound prospect, Duncheon started his event with a loud showing with the bat. The right-handed hitter stayed on the barrel throughout his round and used the whole field during his round. Duncheon posted a max exit velocity of 91.6 mph and also had a max batted ball distance of 342 feet, which was good for second-highest for the event. During the defense portion of the event, Duncheon led all catchers in pop time (1.97-2.09) and was tied for the hardest throw from the crouch at 77 mph. During his bullpen, Duncheon posted an eye-opening 91 mph fastball to end his day, a three mph increase since we had seen him up to 88 mph in the spring. The stretch-only right-hander impressed throughout with his arsenal, showing a slider with 10/4 shape that sat 76-77 mph with an average of 2352 rpm, and a curveball with an average of 2344 rpm, sitting mostly 72-74 mph. He rounded out his four-pitch mix with a change-up that sat 79-81 mph with slight fading action. After his impressive performance, Duncheon received an invite to this year’s Prep Baseball Future Games where he will represent Team Illinois at LakePoint in Georgia.

+ RHP/INF Garet Wolfe (Newman Central Catholic, 2026) swung the bat well from the right side of the plate. He barreled balls to the middle of the field throughout his round, posting a max exit velocity of 93.3 mph to go with a max batted ball distance of 331 feet. On the mound he showed clean, athletic actions with a loose arm out of a ¾ slot.

+ OF/RHP Ryan Pipkins (Champaign Central, 2028) is an intriguing freshman to know from the event. Pipkins showed well in all facets on Tuesday, starting the event with a 6.95 60 time, while also recording a max vertical of 30”. The 6-foot, 163-pound prospect then swung the bat well from the left side, showing loose and easy hands paired with a line drive approach. His athleticism carried over into the defensive workout in the outfield where Pipkins displayed easy movements and body control throughout his round. He later jumped on the mound and impressed with his easy actions and control down the mound. His fastball sat 77-81 mph, throwing it for strikes 100% of the time. He also mixed in a curveball with 11/5 actions and a change-up with slight fade to the arm-side. Pipkins is an upside prospect in the 2028 class.

OF/RHP Jack Stefani (Glenbrook South, 2026) is an intriguing prospect in the state’s 2026 class. He’s a left-handed hitter at the plate with twitchy actions, producing a max exit velocity of 92 mph, but staying on the barrel for an average of 85.3 mph. From the outfield he showed clean, athletic actions with a long and loose arm, producing an 88 mph bullet on his best ball to home. On the mound, he showed athletic actions, producing a mid-80s fastball that was up to 87.1 mph with quality spin (avg. 2395) and an average of 20.1 inches of horizontal movement. An upside prospect at 6-foot-2, 185-pounds.

PITCHER ONLY’S

RHP Soogyeom Park (Champaign Central, 2025) is an intriguing uncommitted arm in the state’s incoming senior class. He stands in a hard-to-miss frame at 6-foot-6, 217-pounds with strength throughout. He works out of a hybrid delivery, working with pace during his bullpen. He showed an effortless delivery with a shorter arm path out of a high ¾ slot. His fastball sat 83-86 mph, topping out at 87 with an average of 17.1 inches of horizontal movement. He also displayed a slider with an average of -16.3 inches of horizontal movement, sitting 73-76 mph. A must-know uncommitted name to follow in Illinois.

RHP Miles Woolsey (Mahomet-Seymour, 2025) is another uncommitted arm to know from Tuesday’s event. Woolsey stands in an athletic frame at 6-foot, 181-pounds with strength, too. He’s a loose, athletic mover on the mound with a clean, quick arm path out of a ¾ slot. He showed an impressive three-pitch mix, starting with an 86-87 mph fastball with quality spin (avg. 2217 rpm). He showed a low-70s slider with short, horizontal actions and an average of 2337 rpm. Arguably his best off-speed pitch was his change-up, which sat 72-74 mph with heavy fade, producing an average of 20.5 inches of horizontal movement. A must-follow uncommitted arm in Illinois’ incoming senior class.

RHP Will Pennell (Sacred Heart-Griffin, 2026) stands in an athletic, projectable build at 6-foot-1, 175-pounds. He impressed on the mound with his clean, loose actions down the mound with minimal effort throughout. His fastball sat 79-81 mph with ride through the zone, and a slurve with 10/4 shape, showing feel to throw it for strikes. His change-up looked like his best off-speed pitch, throwing it with fastball intent and creating heavy fade, producing an average of 21.5 inches of horizontal movement.
