This week’s PBR Player of the Week was 1B Joe Oswald (Andrew, 2017). On the week, the unsigned senior, went 12-for-15, good for a .800 batting average. He also hit three home runs, three doubles, knocked in 13 and scored seven runs to go along with the lofty batting average. Click Here to read about Oswald's early season success.
Every week we will note the players that just missed out on the award with our Weekly Diamond notes. Let’s take a look at some of the players around the state who had a big week last week:
WEEK 3 PERFORMANCES
Andrew Auton, 1B, Mount Zion, 2017
Milikin commit. In seven games last week, Auton went 13-for-21 (.619 BA) with three doubles, four home runs, 17 RBI’s, 12 runs and two walks.
Ian McMahon, LHP, Benton, 2018
Picked up a win on the mound against Massac County last week. Went seven innings, scattered three hits, no runs, struck out 12 and walked four.
Cam Robinson, RHP/OF, Champaign Central, 2018
Last Tuesday, Robinson hit a three-run homerun in the first inning of a 10-0 win. He hit another first inning three-run home run two days later in a 12-1 win. Robinson picked up seven RBI in the two games. On Saturday, Robinson twirled a complete game victory on the mound against Normal West. Robinson struck out seven, gave up three hits and walked one in the win. He also doubled and scored a run in the win.
Riley Rundquist, 3B, Buffalo Grove, 2019
Rundquist, went 5-for-10 (.500 BA) on the week with two doubles, two homeruns, seven runs, eight RBI, was hit by a pitch five times and stole three bases.
KC Simonich, 3B, Lemont, 2017
Texas Tech commit. On the week, Simonich went 7-for-12 (.583 BA) with three home-runs, two doubles, six RBI, scored five runs and walked three times.
Jimmy Staab, RHP, Sangamon/Tri-City, 2017
McHenry County College commit. On the mound, started one game, got the win going six innings, allowed one hit, no runs, struck out 15 and walked three. At the plate went 3-for-8 (.375 BA) with one double, one home run and four RBI.
Matt Verdun, INF/RHP, St. Rita, 2017
Lewis University commit. In six games last week, Verdun went 10-for-19 (.529 BA) with five doubles, a grand slam, 10 RBI and 11 runs. He also went 2-0 with a save on the mound. He went a total of five innings, struck out ten and did not give up an earned run.
Andrew Wilhite, INF, Stillman Valley, 2018
In five games he went 14-for-20 (.700 BA) with nine doubles, one home-run, one RBI, nine runs and three walks. On the mound, he went 1-0, went 6.1 innings, gave up two runs, struck out 12 and walked one.
Donivan Williams, SS, Richards, 2017
Illinois State commit. In four games last week, Williams went 10-for-14 (.714 BA) with four doubles, two home runs, 10 RBI, scored 11 runs and stole two bases.
