GLENBROOK SOUTH VS GLENBROOK NORTH - 5.4.19
By Adam Panayotovich
Illinois Area Scout
Ryan O’Hara, LHP, Glenbrook South, 2019
Unsigned senior, high interest arm, will not be uncommitted for long. 6-foot-2, 205-pound left handed pitcher, well-proportioned frame, athletic and loose. Started against Glenbrook North with a final line: W, 6IP, 3H (all singles), 0R, 6K, 2BB (55 of 84 for strikes & 8-2 groundout-flyout ratio). Presence on the mound, quick tempo from pitch one, got the ball and delivered, changed timing with runners on when needed. Deception in delivery, coiled balance point, heel lifted, slight drop on back side, closed shouldered until stride to home, slightly across body, athletic finish, more spin off to third in stretch. Arm action is short and loose out front, high ¾ slot with arm speed, maintained on secondary offerings. Fastball/slider combination was used all game, worked both sides of plate with each, attacked the zone and kept hitters off balance. Fastball had same plane run, flashed tilt at the bottom of the zone, easy off the hand, 84-87 mph, topped 89 mph twice, maintained at 85-86 mph in the 6th inning. Slider, 74-79 mph, tight spin with FB arm speed, short breaker and late, ability to back door it and back foot it to RHH’s, all six strikeouts ended with it. Showed a change at 78-81 mph, a couple in game but didn’t need it, thrown firm with minimal vertical depth. Follow 2019.
