Homewood-Flossmoor - 10
Lockport - 5

LOCKPORT, IL - Homewood-Flossmoor senior outfielder Zaid Walker is one of the top high school draft prospects in the state and left little doubt why on Tuesday afternoon. His presence in the middle of the H-F lineup is palpable from the moment he steps in the box. Walker gave the Vikings a quick 2-0 lead in the first with laser of a double to left-center driving in Kyle Salley and Tre Hondras who each singled. Salley chipped in three hits from the leadoff spot and scored twice.

The two runs looked to be enough for Salley on the bump. The southpaw Duke commit struck out seven in just over five innings pitched, scattering four hits.

As for Walker, he wouldn’t see much the rest of the afternoon but when he did, he didn’t miss. The Porters intentionally walked him to load the bases in his second at bat, a move that worked perfectly as Jacob Schroeder grounded into a fielders’ choice, keeping a two-run deficit for Lockport.

Walker was intentionally walked again in the sixth to load the bases after scorching back to back breaking balls in his previous at bat resulting in a long, loud out to left. This time Schroeder made the Porters pay. The junior catcher ripped a bases clearing triple past the third baseman, giving H-F a comfortable 5-0 lead.

Maurey Garrett continued the rally with an RBI double and later scored on an Andrew Pounder RBI single. Garrett went 3-for-4 on the day.

Lockport started to chip away in the sixth when Jon Weis hit a two-run double making it 8-2. But it was Walker again in the seventh who got H-F going as he absolutely destroyed a 2-1 fastball to left for a solo home run, kicking off a two insurance run seventh, and securing a 10-5 win.

Walker is making an early case for PBR Player of the Week with his 2-for-3 (2B, HR), two run, three RBI day. Adding to Mondays totals, where Walker launched two more homers and a double on his way to a monster five hit day with seven RBI and four runs scored.
