Unsigned Senior Spotlight: RHP Zak Gould
October 4, 2018
On Oct. 7, at The MAX sports facility in McCook, Ill., PBR will be hosting the fall’s Unsigned Senior Showcase. You can find registration information within the previous hyperlink, but we’ll use this post today, as well as the posts following this one leading up to this week’s event, to shine the light on a few of the attending prospects who merit specific mentioning.
The Joliet Catholic Academy baseball program is accustomed to graduating collegiate-caliber prospects from its ranks and RHP Zak Gould (2019) could very well be the latest in the Hilltoppers’ prestigious history. The physical 6-foot-4, 205-pound righty has been an integral piece of JCA’s pitching staff. His ability to pound the strike zone with his three-pitch mix is a skill that should make him a quality recruiting target this fall. His fastball sits in the 83-84 mph range but has been up to 86 mph in front of our staff in the past. He’s demonstrated advanced feel for his 12/6 curveball to go along with an above-average changeup. Gould was a member of Team Illinois at the 2017 PBR Future Games and, coincidentally, that represents the last showcase we’ve had the opportunity to see him on the mound, so it’ll be exciting to see him again on Sunday.
