Mike Metz is an unsigned senior currently ranked No. 160 in Illinois’ 2014 class. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound 2B/RHP lacks physicality, but has some room to fill out. He formed a solid double play combination up the middle with senior shortstop and Illinois State-commit Derek Parola.
Metz possesses solid infield actions with arm strength and good carry turning the double play. He has shown above average arm strength for a second baseman at past showcases. On the mound the senior right-hander went 7-1 with a 1.72 ERA and 2 saves in his 15 appearances. In 57 innings pitched Metz allowed only 46 hits, struck out 63 and walked only 11 for a 1.0 WHIP.
He hits from a balanced set up with minimal stride, short to the ball with a high finish, good bat speed for slight frame. Metz hit .313 on the year with 10 doubles and one triple. He also added 18 stolen bases during Mundelein’s highly successful 36-3 campaign, which ended on Monday night in the Rockford Supersectional with a tough 9-6 loss to Priarie Ridge.
Metz is currently being recruited by several NCAA Division-II and junior college programs. He will be playing this summer for the Kenosha Indians.
