Two Top-Level 2015 Prospects Name Their Schools

By Sean Duncan

Two top-level 2015 prospects named their schools over the weekend – both of whom represented Illinois at the Midwest Future Games in August. A look at who’s going where:

+ Cory Wright, a 6-foot-1, 170-pound 1B/LHP from St. Charles North HS, has committed to defending Big 12 champion Kansas State. Wright is one of the top two-way players in Illinois. Currently ranked No. 24 in Illinios’ 2015 class and 121 overall, the left-handed hitting Wright showed well at the Midwest Future Games in August. An impact player at St. Charles North, Wright plays the game hard at all times and is one of the top left-handed hitters in the class. He also plays a top-level first base, and has three-pitch command on the mound.

+ Kyle Shimp, a 6-foot-5, 185-pound LHP from Yorkville HS, has committed to Iowa. Currently ranked No. 30 in Illinois’ 2015 class and 138 overall, Shimp was a clear standout at the Midwest Future Games in August. With his long, athletic frame, Shimp is an extremely projectable left-hander with an easy, loose arm. Working from a three-quarter slot, his fastball topped at 85 mph, sitting in the 83-84 range, with a lot more in the tank, it seems. He showed feel for three pitches and, best of all, had knowledge of the strike zone. He worked two scoreless innings and struck out three.
