Scouting Report

9.16.18 - Houston recruit, currently ranked No. 29 in Illinois’ 2019 class. 6-foot-2, 205-pound left-handed hitting catcher checks a lot of boxes and continues to raise his profile as one of the more interesting prospects in Illinois’ draft class. Cushioned blocks with quick recovery. Possesses a strong, accurate arm with real finish to the bag, consistent 1.95-2.05 pop times. Has continued to improve his strength and athleticism in time; moves well for a catcher, 4.44 and 4.37 home to first. Offensively, has competitive at-bats and has strength and lift with an all field approach. 

5.23.18 - Houston commit, currently ranked No. 20 in the Illinois’ 2019 class. 6-foot-2, 190-pound, left-handed hitting first baseman; strong, athletic build, physicality in frame. Natural position is catcher but played first base on this day. Hits in the four-hole for Lincoln-Way Central. Open setup, gets hands back and deep. Stays within himself, gap-to-gap approach, uphill bat path and present bat strength. Finished the day 2-for-2 with two runs batted in and a walk. Drove a line-drive to right-field in his second at-bat. Also, flew out deep to left field for a sacrifice fly.

3.28.18 - Houston commit. Ranked No. 14 in the Illinois’ Class of 2019. 6-foot-2, 190-pound, strong, well-proportioned, left-handed hitting outfielder; better known for his ability behind the plate than in the outfield. Offensively, balanced, slightly open setup, smooth load and maintains balance throughout. Fluid, level bat path, occasional lift and bat speed. Made some hard contact at the plate as well as worked deep counts, but finished 0-for-3 on the day. Saw no action defensively in the outfield.  

3.24.17 - Houston commit, currently ranked No. 18 in the Illinois’ 2019 class. 6-foot-2, 185-pound, athletically built, left-handed hitting catcher with present strength. Started behind the plate for the Knights. Hits in the five-hole, went 1-for-2 with a three-run homerun in the first, two runs scored and a walk. Homerun was hit over the right-center field wall. Open setup, starts with hands back, stays quiet and simple, easy strength in swing and has feel for the barrel. Defensively, flexible behind the plate, sticks pitches in the zone, hands are soft and quiet. Arm continues to get better, over-the-top slot, accurate, 2.10-2.16 between innings. High-level 2019 catcher.

7.26.16 - 6-foot-2, 185-pounds, strong physical build, advanced physically for his age, left handed hitting catcher. Hits from a slightly open stance, arm bar load, minimal stride. Has bat strength, longer uphill path, power potential bat. 89 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm played short and over the top, misses were arm side, 75 mph out of the crouch. Pop times ranged 2.05-2.11. 4.47 runner down the line.
