Senior Games: Top Overall Prospects

On Aug. 6, the PBR Illinois staff hosted its annual Senior Games showcase at Triton College in River Grove, Ill., where over 55 of the top uncommitted players in Illinois’ 2020 class gathered to participate in a workout and live game action. Immediately following this event, we broke down the day’s bright spots in our Quick Hits post and our Statistical Analysis.
We began our position-by-position analysis last week with the day’s catchers, outfielders, infielders and pitchers. Today we conclude the analysis of the event with a look at the Top Overall Prospects.
The infield crop was arguably the strongest from the day and infielder’s Breck Nowik, Mikey Kocen and Will Jaynes take the top three spots.

TOP OVERALL PROSPECTS

Breck Nowik SS / Lake Forest, IL / 2020
Positional Profile: SS Body: 6-foot-2, 185-pounds. Long-levered, athletic frame. Hit: RHH. Narrow, balanced setup, short leg lift stride, maintains balance through contact. Loose, quick bat, whip through the zone, lift in swing, fluid rhythm and gap-to-gap approach. Hit a home run to left-center field during game play. Power: 92 mph exit velocity from the tee. Pull-side power potential. Arm: RH. INF - 85 mph. Short and loose arm action, works from a 3/4 slot. Throws play accurate across the infield. Defense: Steady hands, clean exchange, plays through the baseball. Made a highlight-reel, diving catch ranging over his shoulder in shallow left field during game play. Run: 7.06 runner in the 60.

Mikey Kocen 2B / SS / Warren, IL / 2020
Positional Profile: 2B/SS Body: 5-foot-9, 163-pounds. Athletic frame with strength. Hit: RHH. Balanced stance, short stride, maintains balance throughout his swing. Quiet, highly-repeatable swing, direct to the ball, fast bat and works level through the zone. Line-drive, middle-of-the-field approach and fluid rhythm. Power: 91 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm: RH. INF - 77 mph. Short and loose arm action from a high 3/4 slot. Arm played accurate across the diamond. Defense: Reliable hands, fluid footwork, quick and clean exchange. Plays through the baseball. Easy actions in the infield. Run: 6.99 runner in the 60.
