Oak Lawn – The Richards Bulldogs didn’t wait long to rough up the Oak Lawn starter, Bob Kametas. The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead on the Spartans scoring four runs in the 1st inning. Kametas settled down after the first inning, giving up only five hits through the next six innings while striking out seven. But it was the last two hits that he gave up that cost Oak Lawn the game as Richards won 6-5 on a walk-off double.
The Spartans rallied in the top of the 7th inning, scoring 3 runs to eliminate the deficit and tie the ball game up at 5-5. The three runs scored came off the bat of Bob Kametas, who helped himself out with an RBI double and Kyle Smith who came up clutch with a 2 RBI single.
In the bottom of the 7th inning, it only took two hitters for the Bulldogs to score the winning run. Senior Jim Augle, lead off with a bunt single and quickly stole second base. Senior, Erique Palacios who went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI, ended the game on a double to left center field that brought in Augle for the walk-off win.
Scouting Notes
- Spartan Junior, Bob Kametas, threw a complete game (7 IPs, 9 H, 2 BB, 1 HBP, 7 K’s). He was consistently in the 80-82 mph range and ran his fastball up to 84 mph. Also Kametas helped himself out at the plate going 2 for 4 with two doubles and an RBI.
- Bulldogs unsigned Senior, Jim Augle, impressed with his overall game going 2 for 3 with a double and three runs scored. He looked good defensively as well, tracking down a deep fly ball in right center field.
- Richards’ junior, Eric Hall, went 2 for 3 with a stolen base and run scored. The junior looked good defensively making a nice sliding catch in left field as well as showing off a strong arm in pregame warm ups.
