PALATINE - Senior Keith Giagnorio’s walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh lifted Fremd to a 4-3 victory over Barrington in a Mid-Suburban League West matchup on Wednesday. Barrington (12-5, 3-2) took the lead in the sixth inning on junior outfielder Macray Poidomani’s two-run single before Giagnorio delivered the game-winning hit for Fremd (10-7, 3-2).
Scouting Notes:
* Fremd OF Keith Browning looks to be one of the more athletic unsigned senior prospects that we’ve seen. The 5-foot-11, 165-pound Browning can really run. At the PBR Unsigned Senior Showcase, Browning ran a 6.69 60. Against Barrington, his speed translated on the field, as he got down the line in 4.2 seconds from the right side. He also showed arm strength from the outfield and had competitive at-bats.
* Junior RHP Eric Gile had a strong showing in relief. The 5-foot-11, 165-pounder Gile’s fastball sat at 83-84 with some arm-side sink.
* Fremd junior OF Jon Escobar is one to watch as well. The 6-foot, 180-pound Escobar features an athletic approach at the plate, which he used to produce two hits. Escobar, who was hitting fourth, was clocked at 83 mph at a PBR event last July.
* Barrington junior catcher Ryan Lidge looks to be a one of the better catching prospects in the Class of 2013. At 6-foot-3, 180 pounds, Lidge is a physical switch-hitter who possesses arm strength behind the plate and a powerful left-handed swing. Lidge impressed at the PBR Preseason All-State Showcase in February.
* Barrington senior Jon Rogers, a 6-foot-1, 170-pound RHP, commanded the zone with his curveball and 80-83 mph fastball.
