Romeoville ID: Catcher Analysis

The Romeoville Preseason ID showcase took place on Monday February 15th at the Romeoville Athletic Center in Romeoville, IL. Today we start the analysis from the event with the catchers.
2017 C Bo Minor from Paris high school showed solid catch and throw skills behind the plate popping an event best 1.94-2.01. In bullpens Minor showed soft hands receiving with good flexibility in his lower half.
Let’s take a look at the catching prospects from the event.

Anthony Alvarez, C, Taft, 2017
6-foot, 155-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Offensively hits from narrow, open stance with a short, leg kick stride, and collapse on the backside. Long, uphill path. 77 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.87. Defensively has a long, loose arm action from a ¾ slot. Soft hands receiving with flexibility in the lower half. Popped 2.18-2.19 and threw 74 mph from the crouch.
Carson Gross, C, Plainfield Central, 2018
5-foot-9, 160-pound left-handed hitting catcher with some present strength. Offensively hits from a balanced, narrow setup with minimal load and short stride. Long, path with stiff rhythm. 81 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.24. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Popped 2.29 and threw 66 mph from the crouch.
Chad Haller, C, Springfield, 2019
5-foot-6, 185-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a short toe tap stride and average balance. Long path with fluid rhythm, showed a fast bat for his age. 76 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 8.28. Defensively has a short arm action from a ¾ slot. Popped 2.47-2.60 and threw 63 mph from the crouch. Will continue to improve with maturity.
Nick Jones, C, Providence Catholic, 2018
5-foot-10, 235-pound right-handed hitting catcher with compact frame and strength in the lower half. Offensively hits from a tall, narrow stance with a short stride and average balance. Pull hitter with a short, uphill path and a flashed a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 88 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.71. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Online, accurate throws. Popped 2.05-2.16 and threw 72 mph from the crouch.
Bo Minor, C/SS, Paris, 2017
5-foot-10, 170-pound right-handed hitting C/SS. Defensively behind the plate has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Accurate throws with carry. Showed a quick, clean transfer with quick footwork, gains ground towards second base on throws. Soft hands receiving with good flexibility in the lower half. Popped 2.94-2.01 and threw 75 mph from the crouch. In the infield showed soft hands with fluid footwork. Threw 76 mph across the infield. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a short even stride. Line drive pull hitter with a long, uphill path. Showed strength thru contact with 83 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.48.
Trevor Pavelka, C, Naperville Central, 2019
5-foot-11, 140-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Offensively hits form a balanced setup with a short stride and minimal lower half. Short, level path. 75 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.51. Defensively has a long arm action from a ¾ slot. Popped 2.55-2.68 and threw 67 mph from the crouch.
Niko Pozzi, C, Mount Carmel, 2018
6-foot, 190-pound right-handed hitting catcher with a strong frame. Offensively hits from an open stance with a short, leg kick stride. Pull hitter with a long, uphill path, flashed a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 86 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 8.47. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Quick transfer with solid footwork. Quiet receiver behind the plate with soft hands. Popped 2.11-2.23 and threw 69 mph from the crouch.
Josh Rose, C, Geneva, 2018
5-foot-11, 175-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Throws showed carry with a quick exchange behind the plate. Popped 2.21-2.28 and threw 75 mph from the crouch. Low setup receiving with soft hands and flexibility in the lower half. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a leg lift stride. Line drive hitter with a level path and fluid rhythm. Showed strength thru contact with 87 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.49.
Josh Schuetz, C, Plainfield East, 2017
5-foot-10, 215-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Offensively hits from a balanced setup, bars on load, with a short stride. Gap to gap hitter with a short, uphill path. 81 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 8.10. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Online, accurate throws with slower footwork gaining ground towards second base. Popped 2.24-2.36 and threw 68 mph from the crouch.
Jason Wittenberg, 2B/C, Sycamore, 2017
5-foot-5, 140-pound right-handed hitting 2B/C with small, strong frame. Offensively hits from a balanced, narrow setup with a short stride. Line drive hitter with a short, compact swing, flashed a fast bat. 81 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.39. Defensively in the infield has a short arm action from a high ¾ arm slot with an easy arm action. Athletic actions with a clean exchange. Threw 74 mph across the infield. Behind the plate has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Popped 2.36-2.44 and threw 71 mph from the crouch.
