Two Prep Baseball Report third-team All-State selections recently named their schools when Lockport C/3B Derek Bangert and Lincoln-Way North RHP Michael Miller both committed.
Bangert, a physical 6-foot-3, 225-pound C/3B, has committed to South Alabama. As a junior, Bangert powered the Porters' offense, finishing with a .491 batting average. Bangert, who possesses a strong arm, also recorded 14 doubles and 5 home runs while driving in 25 runs. Bangert is currently ranked No. 23 in Illinois’ Class of 2013.
Michael Miller, a RHP from Lincoln-Way North HS, has committed to SIU-Edwardsville. Miller was the primary reason the Phoenix were one of the top teams in the state last spring. As the staff ace, Miller notched a 9-1 record against the team’s toughest competition. The junior finished with a 1.26 ERA and 81 strikeouts in 72 innings. Miller is ranked No. 75 in Illinois’ Class of 2013.
