Several players around Illinois have named their schools recently:
Mark Skonieczy, a physical Class of 2014 5-foot-10, 190-pound C/OF from Huntley HS, has verbally committed to the University of Illinois. Skonieczy, who is currently ranked No. 57 in Illinois’ 2014 class, was a starter on Huntley as a sophomore. Although he played mostly outfield on Huntley as a sophomore, he projects as a catcher at the next level. Where ever he plays, his bat will be a factor. Skonieczy will be participating in the PBR Illinois Preseason All-State Showcase on Sunday, Feb. 17 at The Max.
Cal Laird, senior LHP from Fenwick HS, has committed to Emerson College in Massachusetts. The 6-foot-1, 165-pound Laird had a solid showing at the PBR Unsigned Senior Showcase in October, when he showed feel for three pitches.
Chase Thurston, a RHP from Danville HS, has committed to Eastern Illinois University. Thurston participated in last year’s Preseason All-State Showcase.
Jackson Bubala, a senior RHP from Latin HS, has committed to Dartmouth. The 6-foot-5, 220-pound Bubala is currently ranked No. 85 in Illinois’ 2013 class.
David Camacho, a senior RHP from Elk Grove HS, has committed to Rockford College. The 5-foot-7 Camacho was a strike-throwing machine during the Fall Prospect Program in the fall.
Troy Southard, a senior MIF from Downers Grove North HS, has committed to Illinois Wesleyan.
