It was a pedestrian Tuesday night in September of 2012 at the Pitchers Showcase and Analysis when RHP Tyler Lass (Belvidere, 2015) burst onto the recruiting landscape in the Midwest. Lass said about that showcase,
“Attending my first PBR showcase…It opened up so many opportunities for me that I may not have ever had.”
Since then, Lass has been on the fast track of Division 1 recruiting capped off most recently by his performance at the Midwest Future Games this summer.
Lass has made plenty of college visits so far including Michigan, Arizona State, Indiana, West Virginia, Northern Illinois and Iowa. According to Lass he has also been in contact with Boston College, Duke, Air Force, Eastern Illinois and Concordia.
Lass said,
“I hope to be part of a college baseball program where I can continue to grow, learn, be challenged and help make an impact for the team and coaches.”
Lass has a typical pitchers frame at 6-foot-3, 190-pounds. His delivery shows occasional effort but regularly tops out at 88 mph with his fastball. Lass’s slider has the makings of being a go to out pitch at 75-77 mph.
Currently ranked No. 25 in the state Lass is in prime position of being one of only eight available prospects in the top 25 of Illinois’ 2015 class.
