ORLAND PARK – Providence sent its ace and No. 3-ranked prospect in the class of 2014 to the hill in their Regional Semifinal matchup against Brother Rice on Friday, and he did not disappoint.

Jake Godfrey, a Notre Dame recruit, was undoubtedly fired up for this match up. He came out in the first inning touching 93 mph with his fastball, unfortunately for the Celtics he did not locate it. Walking the first two batters of the game, Godfrey warranted a quick mound visit from the dugout, and the rest was history.

With runners at first and second Brother Rice looked primed to answer the Celtic’s first inning run but Godfrey quickly slammed the door on that idea. After the short mound visit the Celtic right-hander proceeded to record a strikeout and induce the four hole hitter, Kevin Biondic into the inning ending 6-4-3 double play.

After the Celtics scored one run in the first, they came back again in the third to score on a solo shot from junior Phil Kunsa.

Godfrey took care of the rest retiring his next 21 of 23 batters after the two first inning walks. He would finish the game striking out seven and allowing just two hits and three walks as Providence would cruise to the 6-0 victory.

Providence will now face Stagg on Saturday at 11am in a Regional Final matchup.
